I'll try to post some videos later, and I haven't watched all the fights, but I thought I'd start the discussion. Barnett looked good, albeit against limited opposition. He was able to outstrike Mo for the whole fight, I feel he really has some underrated striking because it was so bad in the past and because it is overshadowed by his grappling. Good leg kicks, good body punches, good groin shot , then of course when it hit the ground it was an immediate sub with one of his specialties, a kimura or americana (I don't remeber which it was). KJ looked good in his comeback to MMA, he had a game opponent in Dida who could cause stylistic problems with his Muay Thai, but it was a good workman performance to get back into the game. The Minowa vs Ambriz fight was odd, which should surprise absolutely nobody (there wasn't even a betting line due to past "irregularities in Minowaman's fights). Most of the fight was Ambriz looking surprisingly good with a solid top game with a lot of control and some passing, but eventually he sort of rolled over and gave up the heel hook. I have no idea how legit it was or wasn't. It's a shame that Minowa's career has come to **** like this, even if it was legit. Minowa showed so much potential in Pancrase, submitting blackbelts and generally being a weird but talented enigma; now his career is just an absurdity. Bibiano Fernandes really impressed me; he looked much the better fighter than Hansen in all aspects of the game. I expected him to dominate on the ground, but he completely outclassed Hellboy striking, landing great leg kicks, knees to the body, and punches in bunches all fight. He was so dominate on the feet that when it went to the ground he would kick Hansen's legs for a bit and then let him up (although Hansen did a good job of keeping him away with leg kicks) Fernandes is definately the best 145er outside of the WEC. Thoughts? Videos?
The only fights I could find video of was Escovedo brutally stopping Maeda which I found to be somewhat of an upset and the Barnett fight and Beebs if im not mistaking that was more of a straight armbar he finished Mo with.
Yea it definitely was a straight armlock, I just saw it the first time when he gripped the double wrist control and figured Mo was just really unflexible. Just saw the Escovedo fight; damn. What a set up. Cole is a good fighter, I don't know what the betting line was for the fight, but while it might have been a bit of an upset he definitely has the bigger upside at this point in his career.
I had to look at it a couple of times because Mo tapped so quickly it did appear to possibly be a Kimura on a non flexible arm but we will just call it a straight armlock. Just seen Cole is 28 which is shocking hes been around at a fairly high level for many years now. Cole seems to be on a roll now coming back from an injury that I also just now seen that he had. I just like Maeda alot IMO his fight is Torres is possibly the best ive ever seen so I tend to overrate him to a degree. Escovedo vs Fernandes could be a good matchup.
i dont think Mo knew but he had Barnett hurt around 3 mins why the glancing blow seconds later dropped Josh cause i feel he was still off balance from the previous shot and was trying to play it off. thanks for the video LHL
I don't really know much in depth about eithers career, apart from that fight with Torres which is also one of my favorites. I basically just looked at some records and a few old fights and thought that Cole will probably go on to win more fights from this point forward.
Well hes probablly got alot less wear and tear on him at this point. Maeda has been in alot of wars and been KTFO a few times which obviously doesnt do you any favors.
