This is the one I was thinking of, I could see Bernstein and Lampley as a bit of an energy mismatch though. It's also best to have someone from the part of the boxing culture the fighters came out of, even if they aren't the best in general.
My dream commentary team is NO commentary team. I wish you could opt out of it and just listen to the fighters and the crowd.
Al Bernstein has to be on it - best in the business. And as long as that bug-eyed incompetent Kellerman isn't on it, I'm okay with the rest
Don't see him mentioned often in such lists but I've always liked Dave Bontempo as a commentator. I'd have him on commentary and Teddy Atlas on colour.
Lampley, Steward, and either RJJ or Malignaggi. Paulie can rattle off more info in a crisp and precise manner than Roy, but he has a tendency to get carried away on stuff you may or may not care about. Roy is overall good and doesn't really care about the script, but he is a fanboy of certain fighters and doesn't try to hide it. Kellerman is terrible. Mark Kreigel is a f****** disgrace. Atlas is awful. Bradley is all over the place. Andre Ward is pretty good.
I always liked the HBO lineup of Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant, with Harold Lederman doing the rules and unofficial scoring. I always loved Harold's enthusiasm when he went over the rules and then passed it back to jim: "...including the twelfth and final round! JIM!" Also, whenever Jim would ask Harold for a score update: "Harold, how do you have it so far?" "OK JIM...."
