Dream match: Lennox Lewis on (October 31, 1992) vs. Sonny Liston on (sept. 25, 1962)

We need Zakman to objectively make an assement of this matchup first.

How many times have you rehashed that exact statement, mate (without even stylistically evaluating the guy's chances). Have you only ever seen two Lewis fights? Surely not! :roll:


Who exactly DO you give Lewis a chance against?

 

:yep Watch him disappear (don't get me wrong I do quite like the guy and he mostly knows his boxing, however the total objectivity he shows when judging Lewis' career is zero). :dead :-(

 

Imo Lewis is the winner here , Liston had a great aurate and heavy jab , but would ome forward , and imo Lewis could land a great winging right hand for a ko in that situation. Liston obviously could ko Lewis , but i just see Lewis outboxing him before stopping him . Lewis IS the better boxer , and a great puncher aswell

 

I crank it up for the fun of it, but truthfully, Lewis would be quite vulnerable against most ATG punchers. PARTICULARLY the defensively-challenged pre-Emanuel Steward version. A prime Liston would destroy him like he did Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams. Durability is the key here, my friend. Forget about the Ali fights, Liston was past it and just there to collect a paycheck. The pre-title Liston WOULD destroy Lewis, particularly before he hooked up with Steward.

 

Liston.

Lewis found it hard to get past Bruno's jab. I know Lennox improved a lot after that but as much as he improved it wasn't as much as the difference between Liston and Bruno.

Liston had the jab, the power and the chin to take Lewis IMO.

Sonny was also pretty fast handed.

 

Briggs, Klitschko and Tua may all be considered harder punchers than Liston, and they all caught Lewis with their best shots. Perhaps even Gary Mason.

McCall and Rahman KOing Lewis was not primarily about his chin.

If you want to be like that, then weak hitting Ali laid Liston out cold with a weak shot in the first round. **** Liston and his **** chin - Lewis KO 1, 100/100.

Seriously again, I think Lewis had a better chin than Liston did. Some of the shots Lewis took in his career were enormous. Liston would fall more often, if he took the same shots.

 

So how many pounds what Liston be giving away here, exactly?

 

Liston in 5...in what had been a very good fight up untill that point! IMO

 

13 pounds.

 

Liston would win if he could get away with putting linament on his gloves to blind Lewis.

If not he may possibly quit on his stool after taking too many big shots from Lewis

 

Liston cripples him inside of 3.

Lewis gets "McCall'd" after losing the jab war.

Steward-trained Lewis stands a fair chance at beating prime Liston, but the Ruddock-era Lewis will be looking to slug it out in a fight where he will be outjabbed, outgunned, and outlasted.

 

Frank Bruno had an unbelievable jab.

Don't think it's fair to sell Lennox short just because of that facet of it.
