https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/groves-golovkin-sparring-rumours.513319/ I found this on Google just now from 10 years ago on our British forum. We need to get hold of GGG and ask him directly! What a great fighter he was, absolute killer.
Anderson got hyped not cos of his professional record but his sparing sessions, I'd like to see 'em all
I thought It was known Nigel Benn used to train at low intensity as he thought it would leave more in the tank come fight night?
Would love to see the footage of a young prime John Fury when he knocked Mike Tyson clean out in the morning then Lennox Lewis in the afternoon. A real fighting man who must be bringing out a book by now and hosting evenings with John Fury events.
He didn't. I remember hearing Groves speak about it in the last year or so... it may have been on his podcast in actual fact but can't be too sure. But basically he was in the states and was out of shape then the first day he landed in Big Bear he went into the gym and was asked to spar GGG. He thought **** it go on then so jumped in but wasn't in great shape and hadn't climatised to Big Bear so wasn't exactly able to give GGG his best work and got caught with a shot to the ribs, heard a crack and they had to stop the sparring.
That is the more known story, most fight fans know about the broken rib spar. We’ll agree to disagree, but I’m sure when he dropped him it was a different session and time of year.
All jokes aside, it would have been great to see footage of the Tyson-Lennox spar in the Catskills when he put it on Lennox early and dropped him a couple of times.
I just remember watching old footage and him talking about his training regime he said something alone the lines of training at 50% so don’t peak during training. This must of been when I was a young teenager maybe I heard wrong or misunderstood sarcasm at the time
From what I recall, Benn trained and dieted like a machine. Eubank on the other hand just ate 1 meal a day.
Yep seen that interview before, thanks for posting. I’m still going with it happened and I loved GGG. Saw him live at the Garden 3 times, unlike Groves who I never saw live and think is a bit of a twat.
