If you could have one of these 5 trainers train you who would you pick and why? A) Angelo dundee B) Freddie roach C) Floyd mayweather sr D) Roger mayweather E) Cus D'amato
Cus, he took the person in their raw form and could make a champion. He also built a very strong relationship with his fighters.
Pecho the problem with Howard Rainey is that he teaches to move the body Inorder to move the head, were cus taught to move the head to move the body. As a trainer I don't want you jumping about in the ninth round I want standing there or as cus put it moving your into position to throw a punch whilst your opponent is still throwing. Look at the tapes of Mike Tyson he moved his head into position to throw 3-2-3, 1,6,4 and his favorite 1,6,3 combos. The other issue is that Howard teaches to plant your feet before you punch this is very hard to do against someone who is quick on the feet. For this reason boxers are arm punchers whilst Howard teaches throw across body punches leaving the body widen open for counter punches.
And you are? I dont agree with anything you said, especially the part where you said that you move the head to move the body which is not true. You move the body to move the head, if you do otherwise youre out of balance. If you have no balance youre ****ed pretty much. I think you have the wrong conception of tyson, tyson used his body a lot to move his head. No offense by the way.
The secret behind Mike Tyson's fighting style- Cus D'Amato YouTube.Cus states to move your head first. Stand in front of the mirror in a peek a boo stance. Ready now move your head and bend laterally to the left! now throw a body shot. Return to the upright position and move your head laterally to the right and throw a body shot with your right hand. Practise this repeatedly! Okay find a sparring partner and go into the pocket and practise, practise, practise!
I really dont care what Cus says. You move the head first you only move the ears. You do that what you say and you loose balance and will fall on your ass. If you move your head before you move your body you cant even see anything straight let alone fire a punch. Peek a boo stance is not an ideal one and not many fighters can pull it of, most of them are doing it wrong as well. i love Cus and Dundee as well, but they are not my ideal trainers, sorry.
Dundee was not a very good trainer but an excellent motivator in the corner. Cus Dmato was a good trainer for only one type of fighter. Mayweathers? No. Outside of Floyd they haven't developed any great talent. Freddie is good but not my first choice. My pick would Manny Steward, the trainer who produced 41 world champions. He was both a great trainer and an excellent strategist and motivator in corners. Whoever trained in Kronk gym under Manny would quickly improve; some examples would be Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Evander Holyfield (second Bowe fight), Tommy Hearns etc.
There's an old adage if you're the taller man you need to line up if your the shorter man then you must square up! Cus style produced some of the greatest heavyweights of time. Tyson, Paterson. Other greats not associated with Cus D'Amato included Bert Cooper and the fellow we trained Dwight Braxton aka Dwight Muhammad Qawi we taught him to put his weight over his left leg, and curl his spine forward right shoulder sunk and raising the left shoulder with the head off the centre. Right hand on the chin with left hand touching the solar plexus. Now move the head downward raising it upwards in a U fashion. This called bobbing and weaving. Qawi was stood 5'6 and took on the world's greatest and never was off balance.
The biggest mistake that you can do in boxing is to put your weight onto your left foot cause you cant move properly, out of balance, and cant put leverage onto your shots. Squaring up even if you are a shorter man? Bad idea. Makes you a huge huge target. There is an old saying, exceptions make the rule. Cus may have created Tyson and Patterson but that doesnt make him a God in boxing. Same as Dundee? Have you ever seen his video instructionals? Its terrible.
