Steve Holdsworth is a fantastic call. As well as commentating , he would go off on a tangent and reminisce about things that happened in the past and make a routine Sven Ottke or Henry Maske fight a real pleasure. Also, you could email him, he'd give the address out on air and he would reply to you. A brilliant commentator. He did Bugner v Scott Welsh on Sky and was never brought back. I think you needed to be a company man even then
Presenter : Mike "Frank Butcher" Reid Studio pundits : Lloyd Honeyghan Henry Cooper 'Mad' Frankie Fraser Ringside Commentary : Steve Holdsworth Reg Gutteridge Joanna Lumley
I have remembered as well, think would have a special expert role especially for naz, for extended use on either overrated fighters or rubbish fights,
Lol spot on bro.....i remember one time steve was calling some heavyweight explosion bill and the referee had red dyed hair or something when it was naturally white and steve kept going back to it like it bugged him....i loved the way he called sven ottke fights....ottke was one of my favourite fighters...but he was supposedly boring/technical/cynical...the atmosphere in big german fights before the real rise of the klitchkos was like a dinner club they"d all sit quietly in a hushed silence watching...than the last round you"d always see these middleaged gentlemen and ladies in their finest dressing gowns clapping throughout...and steve always seemed bemused and snide about it.....brilliant commentator very listenable!
Harry Carpenter and Mike Tyson were a superb commentary team...mike did commentary on the bruno-tillis & starling-honeyghan fights....and of course they made those 3 videos watching the old fights together.
Every fight would be a slobberknocker, and he would repeatedly scream the surname of anyone knocked down!
The guy is one of the worst, so biased and toes the sky line to a t! Whyte gets ktfo and all he wants to talk about is Whyte winning the rematch.
Nelson reeks of desperation, hanging on to his Sky job cause he knows that he's f@@ked in the outside world. Luckily he a quota filler along with Anna Woolhouse otherwise he would have gone years ago. Then having Joshua on there who is so hamstrung by his media training that he cant even say who he thinks will win between Whyte and Povetkin. They could not come up with a worse set up if they tried . Also why is Bellew getting upset that Whyte's been knocked out ? What does he care ? He's a thick, out of his depth, attention seeker trying to come across as none of those things. Him and Hearn are the worse double act in history. Two straight men , with public schoolboy Hearn trying to look ' street ' along side his tough mate. Bellew thinks he Bernard Hopkins to Hearns Oscar DeLa Hoya regarding the Matchroom boxing business. I just wish he'd f... off and spend more time with his family.
Malignaggi would have to be in there. I actually thought Darren Barker and Chris Lloyd were excellent in there coverage of the WBSS and good again on the weekend when commentating for DAZN. Sky should bring them in, they'd be a breath of fresh air and clearly have a good camaraderie.
Why the need for the cast of Zulu to chat about a fight ? We can all pretty much see what's happening. I do like the way Richie Woodhall adds a bit of technical commentary for the lay person but this whole crowd thing is so typical of the way Sky hystericalise all the sport they broadcast. To pick up on T-Booze's thought, I'd have dear old Harry Carpenter with his wonderful gravitas presenting and the great double act of Reg and Jim on commentary.
