ROUND 15 the crowd gave both fighters a standing ovation at the start of the round.lamotta sways to his right and left but cant get rocky to lead.both men look exhausted. a jab by lamotta scores graziano wings a right hand that somehow lands but theres little in the punch.lamotta misses with the straight right thats been a key weapon thru the fight and graziano digs to the body.both fighters willingly clinch.lamotta moves straight back and rocky throws a looping right that just misses. the challengers momenteum almost takes him to the canvas. lamotta tries to attack while graziano regains his balance. lamotta throws a left that lands on the back of rockys neck, graziano moves inside with still another body shot. the fighters exchange uppercuts and grab one another. graziano misses again but lamottas counter falls short as well.both men are spent and seemingly hold each other up for the lasst 10 seconds of the fight. the weary warriors half hug half lean on each other before they return to their corners to await the decision. its been an exciting if somewhat predictable fight.
THE DECISION the scores in rounds 8-4-3, 9-4-2 and 8-5-2 indicate the overall dominance of the winner and still middleweight champion of the world JAKE LAMOTTA.
I think Lamotta chases him down and smother Graziano who takes a righteous beating. Just can't see Rocky winning.
The usual presumption is that LaMotta comes out on top, as well he should, being the tougher and better fighter. However, Graziano, commonly described as a junior middleweight in modern terms, wouldn't have had an issue making weight, and had decent stamina for his mode of slugging, with a quartet of tenth round knockouts to his credit (including Red Cochran 2X, plus Janiro III and Fusari), and a quartet of decent ten round decision wins over Janiro and Sonny Horne 3X. If Jake was weight drained as he was for the Valentine's Day Massacre...
S,I'm aware of their signing for a bout, but when Graziano postponed the fight "due to injury", most of us at the time believed,Rocky thought better of his decision to sign, and therefore claimed an "injury".So technically U are correct:good
Teddy Atlas said that Lamotta would have eaten Graziano up like a little Italian Cookie. So that means that Graziano would have kicked his ass!! JK Actually Atlas has the right winner. But by no means it wouldnt be a mismatch,at least not in the early to mid rounds... THe first 4 or 5 rounds would be close.. And outside of a knockdown(or 2) Graziano is giving as much as he gets. This would be a guarantted classic just on the early and mid rounds action alone,, But by the 6th ,7th round, ,,The naturally bigger, more durable and just better Lamotta is pummeling Graziano who is hanging in their on heart alone.. Now this looks like a mismatch ,today it would be stopped but different times then.. Lamotta drops Graziano a few more times over the next few rounds,.THe ref finally stops it as Graziano looking half dead, struggles to make it to his feet. Lamotta Tko 10
You should have mentioned that up-front, s. You left the impression that you wrote it, as well as denying credit to the person that did.
well gee whiz mr garfield i appoligize to you and everyone else on this board never meant to intionally let anyone think i made it up. i also have the lamotta vs iran barkley dreamfight would it be allright by you(you make me feel like i have to check in with you lol) if i printed it? or you could go by my old saying if ya dont like it dont read it or dis it.
Well then, why didn't you include the writer's byline when you copied the write-up? Also, earlier on this thread, I complimented your writing chops. You didn't jump-in to correct the impression.
Graziano scores KO over Gene Burton (forget about the title of the video): [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyfqG-mHAag[/ame]
TGA, nice film of Graziano koing Gene Burton who was a tough welterweight contender years before. It must also be pointed out that this Rocky Graziano in 1950,was I believe not the same fighter he was after the trilogy with Tony Zale ,2 years before. After the beatings Graziano took from Zale he was not the same fighter that he was pre-Zale. Watching this clip for the first time, and remembering the much faster punching Rocky I saw before Zale, it is apparent to me that he was on the downside...:hi:
