You people have been sleeping on this... quotes from the recent ESPN chat between Golovkin, Stevens and some random online fans (assuming Stevens & Golovkin were actually behind their keyboards):

The guy would be a corpse walking into the ring, and would only be doing it for the millions he was sure to make, not because he felt he would win due to the physical condition he would be in.

Is that the kind of fights you want?

Did I say it was a good idea?

It's possible he could do it, Canelo was not a corpse and he's been heavier fight night than GGG. Still 154 sounds a lot more feasible

On the other hand, if you read the quotes you'll see former LHW Stevens is willing to come down to 154...

Did I answer the question for you? No.

I asked a question. I did not put words in your mouth.

Has GGG "ever" weighed as low as 152 at a weigh in in his professional career?

(I don't know the answer, which is why I ask)

Alright. Then absolutely not is my answer, since I'd like GGG to face Chavez Jr, Rodriguez and Ward, in that sequence. :yep

I like those fights, but don't know about Rodriguez much. I think he'd starch Chavez Jr. for sure. Have not seen much of Rodriquez to form an educated opinion about that match up, but I certainly like GGG in general. The guy is the goods IMO.

Ward? Hmm, I'm an East Bay Area Native and I got to stick with our home town champion on that one. GGG would be moving up in weight, which would be factor against somebody as skilled as Andre Ward.

No but fighters have gone down successfully. Rigo has only fought at 122, I think he could go down to 115 and dominate. It's just not worthwhile for him to drain at all, since he can handle the bigger guys fine

Sure, fighters have gone down successfully before. However, when a fighter is going down to a weight he has NEVER weighed in at, that is concerning. At the very least, the guy should have been able to weigh-in at the requested weight at some point in their career. (Which is why I asked if GGG has ever weighed in that low before in his professional career)

It's going to weaken the guy in that kind of situation if he has never been that low in weight before, without a doubt about it.

Would be interesting definitely better than a Khan fight

People like Martinez and Golovkin should try and get a big fight at 154 instead of calling Floyd out from 160 saying they can make catchweights

At least at 154 they can say Floyd has fought there

Well considering GGG's background and great transition to pro boxing, I'd just be curious to see who would control the fight... we've never seen Golovkin backed up or befuddled as to what to do to land punches, it's been somewhat easy thus far. With Ward, we might get to see Golovkin's panic mode, who knows. It's an excellent fight from, well, many perspectives!

The build-up must be proper, though. This should theoretically be HUGE. :bbb

I just want to see him starch Martinez first. I like Sergio, but his time has come and gone. This will also add up to the "proper" build up. I agree with you there.

GGG would KO him in my opinion. Let that happen first, then we can talk about Ward. And don't discount Froch either, that would be another excellent fight as another precursor to future events.

Golovkin's words should be taken as no more credible or interesting than Martinez calling out Floyd at 152 and Manny at 150 or Ward and Hopkins calling out Floyd at 160.
