Alright guys, I've got a boxing tournament coming up in a couple of weeks and was wondering if you could give me a few tips on making weight for the weigh in which will be only about an hour before my first (and hopefully not my only) fight. Currently I weigh 77.5kg whilst slightly dehydrated, with a small bit of food in my belly and light tracksuit bottoms on. The weight limit on the day is 76kg so the target is pretty realistic, if I don't make it the next class up is 81kg. Ideally I don't want to starve myself of food and fluids on the morning of the tournament as there won't be much time for me to refuel after the weigh in. Over the next two weeks I want to go to the gym only to maintain my current muscle mass, and do a fair bit of cardio and interval training in order to lose a bit of the small amount of fat I currently have. This is my first experience in cutting weight for a fight so any advice you could give me on other ways to cut weight would be much appreciated.
your going to make it easy its 3lbs you could probably do it by taking a dump. Whats your diet like because thats whats going to make all the difference.
Small world mate, my family resides in Rayleigh. If you only have to lose 1.5kg, and that weighin was with some clothes and food in you, you should be fine, keep training and try to not do any binge eating or boozing till then. It'll depend on your diet a lot really.
Just drink a lot of water until then. The afternoon before fight day start cutting back on water. Your body will be used to pushing water faster so you'll **** out a couple pounds which you can get back after the weigh-in. Or just cut some calories and run some more and get under the weight by 2-3lb. That way you can eat good the week leading up to the fight. You'll make it easy, don't even get bent out of shape about it.
Pretty realistic? Are you serious. I wouldn't even consider that cutting weight. Eat ever so slightly cleaner and you will come in weighing under easily. You could drop that weight 2 days before the fight and still have plenty of energy.
If it is your first fight you will worry the weight off! Alot of people drop a fair bit of weight the week of the fight just by stressing.
