How is Olympic testing different from what is currently used in boxing? Are current testing methods not up to date in boxing?
I think boxing is the "forgotten" sport by main stream sports media and that's why they are able to get away with many faults the boxing system has.
the commissions dont have the funds nor the analysts to analyze and test the blood/urine like WADA agencies do.
Olympic testing i done year round. In boxing, they so called OSDT, has been done pretty much from the announcement of a fight (approx 6-8 weeks away) up to two weeks before the fight.
Olympic style drug tests might not be as effective as some people want you to believe. In the 2008 olympics there were 4770 samples taken. Only 20 came back positive. Thats only 0.42%. I find it hard to believe that over 99% of those tested were clean.
Those are in competitoin tests and they are not hard to beat at all, if you didn't **** up you should be clean by then. No different from a USADAVADA test at fight night. What is effective (relatively) is the out of competition testing and that is what is meant by olympic testing => You can be tested any day of the year. This means you have to be careful with what you take, throughout the year. This both catches more cheaters and limits the amount of doping going on during e.g. training time. Not so when there are only subjected to in competition testing.
