I don't think anyone really hates Danny (like say Pac/Floyd/AB/Ward/Kovalev). In fact, he's quite likable on camera and probably a really cool ass dude in person. But he does cherrypick and he has received gifts.
How exactly was Rios a fraud? With Rios, you knew what you were getting. A straight up, attack minded, offense first with little to no defense fighter. I can't recall anyone trying to sell him as anything else.
He was billed as a "Mexican style" fighter. Is Mexican style just standing there and swinging your arms and having a solid chin or does it involve any skill at all. Rios is a undisciplined mess who was in the sport at the right time when the lower weights still had a few legends names to live off while trying to build new stars. Rios is nothing more than a street brawler who likes to fight. He hasn't been in fighting shape in about 5 years, he has been given gift decisions just to prop him up, and he doesn't take his position serious and I'm against any fighter who doesn't take the job serious because they are blocking someone else from being in that position who WANTS TO SUCCEED! That's why I dislike Rios, Broner, Povetkin, Arreola, Stivern, and anyone else who refuses to stay some sort of shape for their career.
I love Danny. He doesn't cherrypick. He fought a big puncher like Matthysse and beat him convincingly. He fought Thurman who is undefeated and almost beat him. He beat Rios by ways of TKO. So he'll be the World Champion at 147 again soon. Mark my words.
I see! The fact that a fighter lets himself go or doesn't take the sport seriously is considered a fraud in your book. I understand your point.
Yeah, same for me. Wouldn't have made this very thread, had it struck my ears as fake. In his position Garcia, if he truly wanted to cut a quick heel promo and draw "Mayweather heat" from embracing the cherry-picking & primadonna image, could've easily thrown around started trumpeting Bam-Bam's virtues and claiming "I beat a former lightweight champ with 4 defenses, who triumphed in a trilogy with Mike Alvarado who apparently is a good enough opponent even now in 2018 for Manny Pacquiao, so y'all can suck it. You just watched me dominate and stop a notoriously steel-headed fighter, neener-neener..." Instead he almost, without actually saying it verbatim, came pretty close to acknowledging that it wasn't exactly a big test for him but also not wanting to gloat or rub Brandon's face in the shame of defeat with the wounds still fresh during the presser. He could have just not issued any comment whatsoever on his worth. Instead he conveyed, essentially "buck up bruh, we both know you're shot - I probably would've beaten you in your prime anyway but it definitely would've been on points, you're tough AF, people in Mexico/Oxnard are maybe going to snicker quietly whenever you're in the presence about you being the so-called warrior that got halted by that boricua maricosa with the sleekly groomed "I give hummers on the first date" peach-fuzz mustache and the penchant for pink velour collared shirts & performing duets on pop (starlet's) hits with his sisters...but don't pay them any mind. Getting KTFO by me doesn't affect your legacy as "the guy who could/probably would smile a creepily deranged, bloody smile through a 20-punch combo from prime Tyson despite being half of his size" any more than it enhances my own questionable legacy. It is what it is. This was just business. Respect..." - but with fewer words, and self-awareness, and Danny isn't as funny as I am.
Manny and Garcia are on two different paths in boxing. Manny is drifting into retirement (hopefully) and Garcia is making another run to establish himself as the top welter. Fighting Alvarado is disgraceful but Manny should be fighting freak shows or cash fights at this stage cause he is done
Danny is my dude at WW. Ill ride with him till he retires, but he ain't lying. Anybody who could step foot in the ring, be a world champion and have success in this tough sport deserves all the credit in the world. Rios put up a great effort, one of his best in years but imo and as a fan of Rios is like for him to retire. Nothing left to prove or accomplish.
Case and point, maybe your hyper analytical mind clouds your judgement of some of the more obvious genuine and organic reactions that us humans do from time to time. I never once said that I paint Danny in a good light, to be honest I respect his craft but other than that I don’t co-sign his every move. I can’t see how any hidden agenda on Danny’s part cannot be inherently compartmentalized in order to reveal a true empathetic reaction and verbal response for a fellow fighter. Wear the other shoes even if you’re 1-3% of the population big guy.
