Dubois did 25 headbuts vs Hrgovic, video count

Wow that's a lot more than I noticed during the fight. Some of them were innocuous but he was clearly leading with his head and as the shorter guy that's going to present a real threat to a taller opponent. Referee should of done a better job, I only noticed 3 really bad butts and even then I thought the ref should have warned him for use of the head with just 3 bad headbutts. Points should of been deducted.

Infuriating thing watching that slow motion capture of them is that Hrgovic could of easily stopped the majority of them with a simple collar tie and then press down with his forearm preventing Dubois from coming from below to butt him. Wlad and Lewis used to do this all the time to shorter opponents. He knows how to use his lead hand to set up the right hand using similar methods but doesn't seem to know how to use the same technique defensively, he seems to have never trained any defensive skills, he's all offence and in hindsight against a big bruiser like Dubois that's a bad style match up. Probably also why Joyce beat him in the amateurs, his offence is his defence, he should avoid guys that try to walk him down until he actually learns some defence.

 

Haven’t watched the vid yet but did notice Dubois using the head a lot and also coming on with low blows a bit later in the fight. 100% the referee should’ve been doing something about it. Pathetic refereeing.

 

Yes he should have protested, I was surprised he didn't even after the first headbutt I saw which was early on and very bad and blatant. His corner too should have been screaming bloody murder at the ref to do something but they did nothing from what I saw to address the issue. Which is another reason why I think he needs a new head trainer and team because the current one did nothing to help him in that fight.

 

The one at 3:10 I think is worse as he was going in with momentum and again the ref was looking right at it and did nothing. I didn't notice most of them because it was a real slugfest but it's a ref's job to note these things, not score or get caught up in the drama of the fight and in this regard he was inept.

I'm the furthest thing from a Dubois fan, and I rooted for Hrgovic in that fight. But this video is not proving anything. Maybe there were a few shady headbutts from Dubois, but what I see here in 90% of the cases is that Dubois was tucking his chin in and coming into the pocket under Hrgovic's arms, who was very stiff and upright. When that happens, there could be a lot of accidental head bumps. In my opinion that's what was happening here—mostly accidental bumps as they are not high-impact contacts whatsoever. These are not enough to hurt a fighter. It can be frustrating, sure, but to say Dubois headbutted his way to victory is very far-fetched. You could say he was reckless with his head and didn't really care if he bumped into Hrgovic's head while coming in. But using it as a third punch? I just don't see it.

 

Yes, that was a blatant and dirty one, he acts like if he was a battering ram. But to be honest, that's the only one in the whole video that looks deliberate and high impact. The rest genuinely look accidental/careless to me. Also, slow motion could also make such things look worse.
