In hindsight Frank pushed him too fast too early matching him against Joe Joyce. The Kingpjn fight should've been the warning that he needed more to his game.
He definitely has potentia, I'd like to see him in with someone on the level of Parker or Chisora. Someone like Makmudov or Kossobutskiy would make for an interesting slugfest with Dubois.
Makmudov would end his career. The Italian patsy FW put him up against the other night landed a few meaty right hands.
Still looks the same. He would be a fine addition to the bomb squad though. We could feed him a bunch of tomato cans and send him over to Alabama for Deontay to teach him some of the technical skills, that he needs to have to be world champion.
His eye was in that condition because he couldn`t evade jabs, did he show an improvement in that regard in this blow out?
The real question is: why were there SO MANY Dubois threads before he lost to Joyce? He has a crude style, an overly bulked frame, and no notable wins. I'm not sure where the lofty expectations came from.
Dubois is a classic case of British hype job. Gorman was a British hype job and Dubois beating him multiplied the hype.
He should spend the next 2 years gradually working his way up. The fact that he's calling for title shots right now is stupid. His manager needs to manage his expectations. Next year he can call out Chisora.
I think the barometer for failure is at Joseph Parker's level. He didn't fail per say but from what i see in Dubois i think he can get to atleast his level. He needs to improve his head movement because that's his major weakpoint. He comes in gun hoe throwing caution to the win against no hopers but when he fought Joyce he could not avoid the jab. He moves in straight lines which also makes him easier to hit. He's young enough to improve with a good trainer and team behind him. It's down to him to show if he has the ring iq to show he can implement changes effectively. So far in his last fight he didn't show anything different. He just moved in straight lines and threw a barrage of hooks which put his man down. He didn't do anything different. He moved a bit faster but other than that he showed nothing he hasn't previously shown and he didn't need to because of his opponent's level.
Glad to see him back, either way. A win is a win after a setback and loss in the manner Joyce beat him. I just hope he ups the level of competition soon.
