We have been going back and forth about this all night. I am going to reiterate three things: 1) I agree. No reason to get a permanent injury. 2) The way he did is was terrible. Have the trainer call it off between rounds, take a right hand, or at least go down when the jab hits you. Boxing is a business, and the delayed reaction off of the jab just looked terrible. 3) Right or wrong decision, the fight demonstrated that he is one of the most overhyped fighters in history. I don't like the word "exposed," but in this case, it is entirely appropriate.
I respect Dubois, I wish him all the best, honestly he is a quiet assasin and a good guy, It's very hard not to root for him, I hope he recovers and learns and becomes world champ one day. I also respect his decision to take the knee, he is young, has 12 years left at a high level, if he continued fighting tonight, 2 years might have been taken off his promising career
He had a swollen eye. Do you know how many fighters in history have suffered a swollen eye in a fight? You guys would be crucifying this guy if he wasn't the young, British heavyweight on the rise. His eye got punched shut, and he couldn't knock him out, so he quit. The number of fighters who DIDN'T quit when they got a swollen eye numbers in the tens of thousands. There have been so many, we can't even name them all. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
It wasn't a close fight. Dubois was getting demolished all night except during a few brief bursts of energy that Dubois couldn't maintain. Dubois had no reason to continue.
Yeah, don't get the hate towards him tbh. It's not as if he got schooled in there tonight either, Joyce also showed that he has a granite chin as he took some massive shots in there. There's no reason why he can't come back from this.
