Joey Hadley trains fighters in the peek-a-boo style, but he may be the only one left. Kevin Rooney apparently has dementia now.
No way he could do it, even if he mastered the techniques, Tyson's style is so physically demanding as you are fighting from a crouch a lot of the time, he'd gas so hard just after a couple of rounds emulating Tyson with his size and bulk. There's a reason why Tyson became a 3 round fighter, his style is so physically demanding 99% of pros simply couldn't do it for more than a few rounds because the physical exertion is too great and once he wasn't 100% committed and obsessed by boxing he could no longer get into the shape required to make that style effective for more than 3 rounds. Joyce has a lot to work on but he is only 23. He clearly has talent but what he doesn't have is a good trainer and the skills to take him much further than domestic level. He needs to learn head movement, counter punching, how to feint and set up his attacks beyond jab, jab throw a right hand and his movement could also use some work.
Dubious career could have already been over with that eye injury... Boxing isn't a joke. You do not play it.
That's a shame to hear about Rooney. At this stage, the best guy to teach the peak-a-boo would be Mike himself. Who better to teach it than the one who perfected it? But it would have to be a particular fighter, with a particular build and style.
And I think you need to learn the peek-a-boo style as a kid if you are really going to perfect it. It’s kind of like the Mayweather shoulder roll defense...I don’t think many fighters are going to be successful trying to switch to it in the middle of their pro careers.
