Great work Rummy. Analysis on point and I enjoyed the overview of the scene for Dubois's options also.
Well done Sir! Genuinely shocked at how bad AJ was. Chin up in the air with his hands down. It's frustrating because Dubois isn't a difficult puzzle to solve. He can be beat by guys like Parker and Bakole.
AJ stood within distance with his guard down in round 1 That's enough to define the fight. Everybody talking as if skill had something to do with this victory, and the truth is that this punch in the first round defined the whole fight since AJ never recovered and he was standing KO. And Dubois hit the jackpot when he threw this isolated right hand from long distance. This punch in the first round is pretty much a lucky punch (a long range isolated right cross with no previous preparation connecting clean in round 1 is a lucky punch, one out of 1000000000 and it doesnt depend on you). AJ made a stupid mistake and Dubois capitalized. This situation would never happen again. Dubois' victory is very similar to Kamboso's victory over Teo. They both won becuase of situations that would never be repeated, that they cannot force at will, and that are extremelly related to luck. Luck is part of the game too. And stupid mistakes too. So very well deserved victory by Dubois that I enjoyed a lot. I love your videos Rummy! Thank you!!
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy There's vomit on his sweater already, Ben Davisons spaghetti He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drops bombs, but he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud He opens his mouth but the punches won't come out He's chokin, how? Everybody's jokin now The clock's run out, time's up, over - BLAOW! Snap back to reality, OHH! there goes gravity OHH! there goes AJ, he choked
No lucky punch as Dubois saw the opportunity and pulled the trigger. You could say AJ was unlucky to get hit with that punch in the first round. It nearly took his chin clean off. It was a much better shot than the one that counted him out. Joshuas other problems was being detached mentally and frozen stiff with nerves. Pity he didn't have mcracken in his corner cos he did a great job of relaxing Froch in the same stadium. Davidson didn't have the psychological fight game experience to help Joshua mentally
I agree with this to an extent, but only partially - the big bomb in round 1 was disastrous for Joshua, but Dubois was tagging Joshua with that ramrod jab multiple times before the haymaker landed, and Joshua looked like he was re-treating into gunshy mode anyway - the bomb just accelerated things IMO and reduced AJ's ability to mount any return offense. The blueprint on how to tame Joshua has been there since the first Usyk fight, where Usyk tagged him with a clear solid jab in 15/20 seconds, claiming centre ring and putting Joshua on the back foot, nullifying his offense. Contrast this to the Wallin fight, were AJ was able to settle into a rythym without having to think about defence much.
That's simply false. In any case, luck is when preparation meets an opportunity that happens once in a lifetime. Pretty much the case of Dubois here. There is no skill behind this punch. I mean, it is not Dubois' skill what made this punch connect. Dubois simply is not able to repeat it at will, that's why it is a lucky punch.Had it happened in the 12 round or so, we could still argue that it was the result of a thorough work during the rest of the fight but being the first round it is just luck, simple as that. He saw AJ in range with his hands down, he threw an isolated haymaker from a mile and prayed to connet and... bingo! You know the punch that Povetkin used to KO Whyte? that's a good example of NOT luck at all. It was prepared, premeditated, planned and perfectly executed. Povetkin can repeat that any time he wants to. Well, that's not the case of Dubois' punch yesterday, he wouldnt repeat that punch in the first round in 10000 fights vs AJ. People dont want a rematch, but to be honest I want one. Not because I want AJ to win (I want him to lose again and if possible by KO), but because I want to know for sure how much of luck there was in this fight because I think that there was a big component of luck here.
I disagree, sorry. That punch finished the fight. AJ was fighting standing KO. Actually, the fight should have been stopped way earlier, that idiot referee made no favour to AJ's brain. Let's not make the mistake of thinking that it was "just a punch" This content is protected That punch won the fight. AJ was standing, yes, but he was KO'd anyway. Dubois outboxed him with his jab the rest of the fight, yes, but he outboxed a standing KO AJ. We cant pretend that he outboxed AJ, and ommit the context. That was not AJ after that punch, that was KO'd AJ, which is quite different.
