Itauma looks absolutely fantastic so far and he has expressed desire many times to become the youngest HW champion in history, meaning he would need to break Mike Tyson's record, who won WBC title at 20 years and 45 days. Itauma will be 20 on December 28, so May 21 is the latest date for him to do that. May 21 of 2025 is Wednesday of course, so May 17 seems to be much more probable date as it's Saturday. Lets say Dubois beats Parker on February 22 (which isn't given but still), can you see Warren making the fight between Dubois and Itauma in May? If so, who do you see winning that fight? Also, the question is who should Dubois fight in February if he wants to stay active and gain more experience before title fight?
If they push to try to break the record they will go for Pulev and the WBA regular belt, not a chance will they risk him with Dubois in the next 18 months. It will be Whyte and Pulev over the next 12 months I reckon, both old guards, good names and have enough wear and tear that Moses should dispatch of them with out much fuss.
Itauma was never hit clean in any of his fights. He doesn't have thick neck. He's not used to getting hit. And his older brother has certified grade A china chin (was KOd cold with single shot). I don't think Itauma can take Dubois, AJ or Bakole shots if he gets hit. I suppose his chin may be on par with Jarred Anderson though in other areas he is superior boxer than Jared.
Dubois does not need to take the risk here, and Frank is going to want to be sure that Itauma is elite before putting him in with Dubois. If Frank thinks Itauma is elite then he puts him in with Dubois, as that way he gets rid of a vulnerable champion and replaces him with a more marketable and stronger / younger champion.
It would be stupid to put Itauma in with Dubois this soon. The kids had 10 fights and not been tested. He's still just a prospect.
No point risking a career which could well see this lad earn into the hundreds of millions for a gimmick. Build him properly and he may be ready for the real thing in 2 years time.
I'm glad you said that. I thought about starting a thread. His neck is jarringly thin. No even sure if he had any senior amateur fights? Big question marks - especially as he looks undersized.
