They’re talking about cancelling Rainhill United u14s ladies v Tranmere Rovers ladies tomorrow lads....TO FAR NOW, this is getting ridiculous.
I play on saturdays infront of about 5 people plus subs. Hopefully this has a knock on effect and that turns into 8.
Talk now is of terminating all European football leagues early... surely far too much money at stake with premature relegations and promotions?
Looks like it’s nailed on that the Euros will get cancelled. With the leagues in general having around eight to ten games left that gives the opportunity to resolve them in late July/August. They might need to move next season forward, cancel breaks and so on, but hard to see at this stage the whole thing being declared void. The one thing we definitely seem to know about the virus is that it will peak relatively soon and then decrease.
Maybe Tony Dosh PPV v Pudding Pulev is moved to his new home turf Saudi - they don't care about human rights there so unlikely to be cancelled.
There are major major implications if the remaining games don’t get played out. You can’t just relegate teams when safety is mathematically possible because it can bankrupt clubs. In Scotland Dundee Utd’s business model has been to vastly overpay players to achieve promotion to the top flight which they have essentially done this season. If the season is voided and they stay down they could go bust for sure. Probably the case all across the UK. In Scotland, most clubs operate on a short-term basis and most playing staff are on one-year contracts. So you can’t just suspend the leagues and expect the fixtures to be completed later in the year because most players will be out of contract! In Scotland, Rangers and Celtic have done so well in Europe that the co-efficient has improved so much that from 2021/22 Scotland has two Champions League spots again. That is massive for the league but if the European competitions are voided than that vanishes too. I could go on. It’s fascinating and I’m sure contracts address ‘force majeure’ scenarios like this but I’m certain clubs will go bust. In Scotland many clubs rely on away ticket revenue when they play Rangers and Celtic just for day-to-day OPEX. I see Klopp has just issued a very classy statement where he has basically said that if cancelling the season results in one life saved it will be worth it, and that lives are more important than winning the league. Contrast that with this disgusting, crusty, ketchup stained bigot and his total disregard for the bigger picture: This content is protected
Something like this can only happen to Liverpool FC FFS. However, the league title cannot be awarded unless the magic mathematical figure is reached - very unlucky for those with big leads but simply not right to award a title based on current position.
Really feel for all the Liverpool fans mate. Obviously an afterthought given the lives at risk but the prospect of no title or at least a title win behind closed doors and no celebration parade must be devastating.
