I just got back from the John Duddy fight tonight. Duddy won every round easily and decisively, but he failed to finish his opponent off inside the distance. The final scores were 100-90 on all three cards.

The opponent, Charles Howe, fought a very defensive minded bout. He was seriously hurt several times in the fight, and at times he looked like he might be stopped. Somehow however Howe always managed to survive the storm.

Duddy was rarely hit in the bout, and certainly he was never stunned or on the defensive. An accidental clash of heads in round nine opened a small cut just above Duddy's right eye, but his cornermen closed the gash and it did not bleed thereafter.

Was it a decent enough fight that Bob Arum might reconsider Duddy for Pavlik's next fight?

Thank you for the update. A bit disappointing that Duddy couldn't finish it before the final bell, but a dominant win works too.

That I don't know, as I am not aware of what Arum is looking for in selecting Pavlik's next opponent. I do know that Duddy was expected to knock Howe out quickly, though. Thus, it probably won't look too good that the fight went the distance.

Whatever the case, Duddy and trainer Pat Burns were happy with his performance. He won easily and was never threatened.

Yeah, KOing people isn't the only thing. It's often better to get the rounds, and test out what has been trained.

I'd like to see Duddy/Mora. I think John beats him convincingly.

I think its a winnable matchup for Duddy too.
Otherwise i would mind him & Giovanni Lorenzo finally facing each other in NY grudge match.
Would be a nice match to open a HBO BAD telecast.

I don't, Duddy struggled to beat Smichet and regularly gets busted up by clubfighters, Mora is quite a tricky customer.

Duddy has more fans cause hes Irish and has fans at home and in the States, Mora is a better boxer and more well known by the casual fan because of the Contender so i would say Mora.

The Contender was shown in the UK so Mora is even well known to the casual British fan.

    Any ideas??

*cough*bull*****cough* - which clubfighters have regularly beat Duddy up.

Granted I am not overly impressed with Duddy's performances over the past 12 - 18 months but thats is bull**** - he fought the wrong fight against Walhid for the first six rounds but at least had the brains to switch to Plan B and fight at range from then on and won pretty much every round after that.

Duddy could face V. Phillips at 154 in September.
