Speaking at the final media conference call on Wednesday, before the biggest fight of his 30 fight career, Duddy said he is looking forward to the prospect full filling his dream of fighting for a world title should he be victorious againsy Chavez. I think every fight is important, said Duddy. You need a victory. You dont go out there in this game to lose. A win would mean great things. It would open doors to get closer to fighting for a world title. Thats what we are in the sport for, to try and move forward. "I am looking forward to an exciting fight and the winner at the end has a good path in front of him. " Asked whether or not his chances of victory will improve if he can draw Chavez Jr into a fight at close quarters Duddy said: I dont know, I think well have to wait and see. I think the two of us are pretty aggressive fighters. Im sure there has been a few things worked on in the gym and Ive worked on a few extra things and Im looking forward to putting them on display on Saturday night. Duddy Added: Hes a good fighter. The kid has won 40 fights and that is no mean feat. Hes done everything that has been asked of him and hes got great potential. I am going to go out and fight like I do in every fight wherever I go. Saturdays promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank confirmed Saturday nights winner of the new WBC Silver title will automatically become the mandatory challenger to face Sebastian Zbik for his WBC middleweight title The middleweights (Chavez or Duddy) will be moved to where they will fight for a middleweight title. This fight, and I know some people belittle it, but they are fighting for the WBC Silver Belt. That means the winner of this fight is the mandatory challenger for the middleweight champion. That means the winner of this fight is assured a championship match in the foreseeable future. If Chávez wins, and according to Freddie he is capable of making 154 pounds, he could fight Miguel Cotto as a possibility.
JD will bring it. If it's boring it will not be his fault (though I do expect him to continue incorporating intelligent use of the jab into his attack under Burns).
He actually might stand a better chance. I think trying to go sub 160 hurt him in that fight. It was a catch weight and he reportedly came in a pound heavy. This happened when Burns was trying to get him down to 154...
Burns is still a saint for introducing John to the jab, but yeah, he should stay within his areas of proficiency and concentrate on style and not weight.
During the Duddy/Vanda fight my brother-inlaw and I actually had a conversation about John Duddy, a jab, and defense! Who-da thunk it:think
