Apparently Andy Lee will headline a card at the Garden on St. Patricks weekend against Walid Schmit, yes the same Walid Schmit who almost beat John Duddy. Irish Ropes who are in a huge contract wrangle with Duddy are promoting the event. They have agreed to release Duddy from the contract if he appears on the card.Duddy has yet to respond to this offer but if he is willing to fight Irish Ropes are hoping to match him up with Lee conqueror Brian Vera.Interesting symmetry to say the least. I hope they can make this happen
Some very interesting matchmaking form a political point of view. I'll have to think about the boxing point of view for a while though.
Both Irish lads have a good chance if they learned their lessons. I've stated before, Lee did show he could because he started to box in the second half of the Smitchet fight. I think he carries a bit more power than Lee and can make Vera think twice about walking in. Lee should be able to box Smitchet .
Like those shows on Irish Net work RTE. Blood and fist flying. Brutal, turn your head because even hardcore boxing fans might get sick, kind of action. Possible fights of the year, actually. With all of them being like the Sakio/Codrington Contender Finale. All offense, little to no defense, and a hell of a lot of guts and balls.:deal I'd watch that ****.:yep
Vera fights like guy in a tough-man contest at the rodeo. But he is one tough Texan. I'd still give the slight edge to Duddy here. Almost a toss-up. Schmit showed he could definately fight a little vs Duddy... (probably deserved the win IMO) But, I think Lee is better than what we saw vs Vera. Gotta go with Opie here.
Duddy is like a stuck pig when he gets hit a little..When he gets the big fights, expect tko's left and right....
I think Smichet could possibly be a bad style matchup for Lee much like Vera proved to be...Hard nosed, hard puncher and aggressive. I actually think this fight may show if Lee has developed the tools he needs to deal with a guy like Walid. I find it a little more interesting then most seem to..Though Andy should still land on him at will and jab his way to the decision.
Great match up for Lee, this will either start his rise to the top ten in ernest of break a once very promising career. I believe Lee has learnt the Vera lessons and is set to be a world champ in the next 18 months no sooner. This will be a real indicator about this young mans future. Duddy vera would just be a fun balls to the wall and because its duddy bloody battle. Great idea this one
