Duddy , brave lad. Probably going to be a painful night for him....

Kelly Pavlik's promoter Bob Arum believes Irishman John Duddy will be the WBC/WBO champion's next opponent if he beats Jorge Rubio next Saturday.
Arum remains confident that a unification fight between Pavlik and IBF champion Arthur Abraham will still happen but does not want it as the Youngstown fighter's next bout.
You can watch all Kelly Pavlik and Arthur Abraham's fight live on Setanta Sports in the early hours of Sunday night. Click here for details on signing up.
Duddy was initially set to meet Pavlik last June but a horrendous cut suffered in his majority decision victory over Walid Smichet ruined these plans and Gary Lockett stood in for him as the WBO challenger.
With Duddy's big following on the East Coast of America, Arum believes a meeting with Pavlik would be a big event this summer - and a more lucrative option than Abraham.
“There is a difference between the best fight and the biggest fight,” Arum told The Vindicator.
"Financially, nobody knows who Abraham is in this country. And it’s very, very hard turning it into the biggest fight I’ve talked to both German promoters. I am confident at some time we’ll be able to do those fights.
"You have to feed two thoroughbreds and sometimes you can only feed them with one pail. It is a problem, but it’s not an insurmountable problem.
"Duddy is certainly a big name. That could be a monster fight either in Cleveland or Madison Square Garden. It might not appeal to you as the best fight out there — Abraham probably would — but it’s probably bigger than the Abraham fight."

Why do they keep delaying the only mw fight anybody wants to see? Sounds to me that arum is a little scare to put pavlik in with abraham!

thats not what i was getting at, i'm saying his whole argument for not fighting Abraham, is becuzz "no1 knows who he is here", yet they've been fighting guys like that his whole career, outside of Taylor and Hopkins and they've always had a pretty decent turnout, cuzz he has a good sized fanbase

    it's bull****, clearly

I hope they have that ambulance waiting right outside the arena. Duddy's going to sleep, big time. Pavlik, by brutal KO, round 4.

Yeah. That's what it seems like, but let's wait and see what happens. Could just be leverage for a meaningful fight. Arum is a lot of things, but bad businessman isn't one of them.

Pavlik v Abraham is the only meaninful fight at MW as it stands, Arum is obviously reluctant to lose one of his gift horses, because once he steps into the ring with Arthur, its good night Vienna for Kelly.

But this is a trend we have all become accustomed to no? Financial sense comes before Boxing sense/Boxing's fans and legacy.

Pavlik/Sturm and Pavlik/Williams or Wright are also meaningful fights at MW and I 100% disagree about KP/Abraham. KP large UD or TKO late.

The only good thing about a Duddy fight is that Arum mentions Cleveland as a possible location for it, which means I get to see my favorite fighter live twice in a row!

Sturm? Doubt he leaves Germany, and I doubt Kelly will travel. Winky? How is he meaningful at the present time, he hasnt fought in a year and a half. You are of course entitled to your opinion in the outcome of Kelly v Arthur, we just disagree. Put ti this way, Kelly's power will not trouble Arthur, but Arthurs will certainly trouble Kelly.

As for Williams, thats a possibility, but Id rather see him dominate 154 before he steps up to 160. Not sure he even knows what division he wants to be in!

Sturm, I agree is a pipe dream, but that doesn't mean it isn't a meaningful fight.

The winner of the Wright/Williams fight becomes the single highest marquee name in the MW division, and also a stiff test for anyone, so that to me is a meaningful fight.

Arthur's power certainly CAN trouble Kelly, but he'll need to be able to land it and Kelly is too tall and too long for Arthur IMO, especially if he pulls his earmuffs act. I think you aren't giving KP the credit he should get for his power; throwing 80-100 heavy shots per round will wear down anyone and I don't know if Abraham is ready for it, having not fought many hard-punching world class MWs, but let's hope we get to see sooner rather than later.
