KP and AA have one common opponent. Miranda. Both knocked him down SEVERAL times before the stoppage.

I prefer the Abraham fight, BUT, Kelly is getting less money for his Youngstown fight and I fear that means MONEY will be the deciding factor for the fight after Rubio. Pavlik's camp is still hinting AA though. Arum may be lowering AA's money expectations?

    what can you say

Pavlik and his team know they dont belong in the class of Abraham/Kessler/Hopkins and belong in the class of Lockett/Rubio/Duddy

Rubio is an awful opponent. Even more so than Duddy would be. The only thing we can say for Rubio is statistically he looks impressive.

I remember him getting frazzled by Kofi Jantuah inside one round.

I would be shocked if this goes past 3.

Its also annoying because, what has Duddy ever done to get a shot at Pavlik? Boxing shoots itself in the foot time and again. Get the fight on, if its competetive, have a sequel, then a trilogy, more money for everyone!

The little guys seem to get it right, time the others followed suit.

You boxing Purist make me vomit:barf All you talk is getting the titles togethere but Pavlik did would want Pavlik move to 168 and would split all over again:patsch You don't want to see Pavlik vs Duddy which a much better fight in terms a event and style mush then Pavlik vs Abraham:deal Lets face it all Athur does is cover up on the rops and try and counter punch with a bomb ones in a while the guy is not as exciting as great slugging John Duddy:bart

Pavlik knows he doesnt belong at 168 either, so he stays at 160 as far as Im concerned. Unification is a good thing, Duddy is poor, plus he hasnt earned his shot :deal

What I want to know is why everyone keeps saying that this is the last year for Pavlik at 160, when almost everything I've read seems to indicate he makes the weight fairly easily for a guy his size.

:huh Dont know mate. I thought he said himself he was staying at 160 for the forseeable future, plus, he looks comfortable enough there, doesnt seem to struggle to make weight, and he has size adbantage/reach etc there, he loses that when he steps up, makes sense to stay at 160 if he can do it safely that is.

    It's the whole 'repeat-something-enough-times-and-it-becomes-true-despite-all-evidence pointing-to-the-opposite' phenomenon.

    :yep True is that.

He can achieve the most at 160, no point moving away from your best division, imo anyway. Sure, move up for challenges later, but he shoud stay at MW, he could have fought AA instead of Hop already.

I said from the beginning that Rubio was destined to make Lockett's stock rise. Kelly was saying he had to come out and be impressive. Now his camp is saying to look for a 'technical' fight. :think Are they going to use this fight to work on a few things? Pavlik actually talking about using ANGLES?

“I’m just going to use my talent and my ability and my boxing skills [to beat Rubio],” Pavlik said. “We’re going to use angles — Rubio seems to have trouble with that — and use our hand speed.”

 I'm sure Lockett will be most pleased in his retirement.

I don't think it will really matter how Pavlik fights. When he lands punches Rubio will not take it, the evidence suggests so.

It used to be EVERY press conference was a warning about him being able to make 160. His title focus has changed that. One of his problems is he started training harder and two weeks earlier and was wearing himself out. He is changing that, but he still likes his titles and I think, for now, that is keeping him motivated with the weight.

Im not sure Pavlik has the footwork to use "angles" to any great effect. not against a decent fighter anyway. He is what he is, why change it and risk losing what you had?
