You're right Duddy is earning too much because of a birth defect, the defect which made him a nice guy with a burning desire to entertain the fans and have a scrap. You make it sound like the only reason Duddy earns money is because he's Irish, well if that's the case why doesn't every Irish fighter head to New York and make a fortune like Duddy ?

Duddy hasn't made quite as much in his career as you may think either, he's certainly made other people a lot more money than they made him. You can't blame him for ripping off those fans either, they paid good money but always got their money's worth and outside of the Lyell fight I doubt you'll find a time Duddy's fans went home disappointed.

There's a popular myth that all(or the majority) of Irish fans seem to think that John Duddy is the best Middleweight in the World. Far from it, 95% of us realise his limitations and even the 5% that don't still wouldn't say 'Duddy will destroy Pavlik' more 'Duddy has a decent chance v Pavlik'.
This myth is then used to hate on Duddy for no damn reason.

The guy is an exciting fighter, who's a very likeable man and as such he's popular. Popular fighters will occasionally get fights above their level due to financial reasons(eg. Gatti), but that's not really that big a problem in the sport when you think of the opportunities fighters with very small followings and even less talent get because they are easy defences of titles(eg Pablo Navascues who is worse than Duddy).

Just enjoy Duddy for what he is and stop getting caught up in the myth that he's hyped........he's not, no one is hyping him he just happens to be popular, which is another story altogether. Now if someone has a problem with Duddy being popular then you'd have to guess they have issues or are jealous a favourite fighter of theirs isn't held in the same regard.

As for Matthew Hatton, he's a ****.......we all know he's a ****. But he's responded well since he lost to Watson and has got some good results. Wins over Tackie, Bami and a draw with N'Dou(okay all 3 are past their best and N'Dou probably would of beat him if he could of sparred) show he's got a little bit about him and he can box a bit. There's nothing ridiculous about him getting a European or British title shot.

Now there are more deserving British fighters for those shots(such as Jennings), but Matthew Hatton is up to the level of fighting for British and European titles........even if he is a ****.

 

And Duddy is ridiculously handsome lets no forget that.

theres no reason to hate a fighter just because hes popular, i don't think Duddy is world class by any stretch of the imagination but i hope that he can use his latest win to get some momentum behind him again

Hardly.

That's why I wrote MIGHT within my post. Perhaps that's why people do dislike him.... perhaps other reasons.

I don't hold anything against him personally, he might be a decent bloke.... I don't know.

In terms of his career, it's pretty obvious that his career has stalled a great deal. Is that his fault, or his management? Either way, the facts remain that it has stalled, and little action has been taken to rectify the matter...... instead another undercard slot.

There are many fights out there for him.... Macklin, Lee, Barker etc and some more on the continent, rather than fighting no-names in the states.

In truth there is very little point in discussing his career and those of other Irish fighters, with Irish posters, because the vast majority are so biased it is unbelievable.
