thats not a fair argument. cotto didnt start his pro career as young as canelo did so the whole age thing is a non factor. i think canelo started at 15 at cotto started at 19 or 20.

look at the first 5 years as a pro and see the level of op that the two are fighting its a different story than just tlking age.

I used to think he was a spoiled pampered product being shoved down our throats by Oscar, which he kind of was, but the way he's willing to take on all comers like you said has really won me over, unfortunately for him that great take on all comers attitude at Middleweight will be his complete undoing if he has the guts to fight GGG which sadly I think does. He's not going to fare well against guys much bigger than him. So I agree.

But you never know he may be more impressive than ever if he eventually moves up, but I highly doubt it.

Can't respect this thread. OP seems to have a weird dislike for some fighters, Cotto being one of them.

Both Canelo and Cotto are pretty good fighters who have their strengths and weaknesses.

If you're going to add the likes of Tyner to Canelo's list, then you should probably add former lightweight titleholder Cesar Bazan, and fringe contenders in John Brown and Ubaldo Hernandez.

Also, you should provide a bit of context. Cotto was 22 fights into his career after defeating Bailey and had been a pro for 4 years.

Canelo has been a pro for twice as long, and has had twice as many fights.

So, the percentage of significant matches for each man is comparable.

If you take a look at the first ten years of Cotto's career, the percentage of notable opponents isn't comparable, and it favours the Puerto Rican.

You're right I should have left off Tyner and JM Cotto, but I was just fleshing out on the fly no real thought put into it, what a previous poster had said

Yeah, Cotto haters are always a weird bunch I've noticed, it doesn't matter what forum you go to either, it seems to me. Their hate for him will have them blatantly telling lies, contradicting themselves, supporting cheaters, trolling etc. And, it's not like they're not aware they're doing this either, they do and don't care, yet, they are otherwise normal on other most other subjects. That contrast is what really separates them as an odd bunch.

How can you let one man flip your lid to the point where you don't care how you're perceived only for the point in time you are discussing that person? It's not normal to have that kind of passionate hate for a human being , who, especially, for the most part, gave us exactly what we wanted to see. They act as though Cotto killed one of their family members and not as though, a person who did the positive things he did for the sport we love, really strange stuff with these guys.

Cotto biggest win was against a close fight with Mosley, seven years ago.

did u cried while typing this? all this credit to a fighter who makes a living fighting in a smaller weight division that he's supposed to. so he can enjoy size and strengh advantages against mostly blown up former welters. . .

cotto at least became a champ in 4 weights

canelo is going nowhere after he steps up to contenders at 160

I don't know...I have cotto to win this fight. Too skilled for canelo. Cotto did better against floyd because he can re-adjust during the course of a fight. Canelo shows he doesn't have that ability....which is why he was clearly beaten by Lara and arguably beaten by trout.

Why would I be crying when I usually take absolute glee in what I write.

    Good post

I've been saying the exact same thing... If Cotto doesn't fight Floyd, Canelo, or Golovkin, Cotto will be the biggest ducker of 2015 and the year just started!

If you look at their last 10 fights, who has the better resume?
