This has to be one of the most tragic, if not the most tragic story of boxing history There were various claims of severe weight draining, suggestions the fight should have been stopped in the 13th round, which could have prevented further punishment, and we all know that the fight alone, played a major part in reducing bouts from 15 to 12 rounds. The end result were fatal brain injuries to Duk Koo Kim and resulted in the suicide of both the referee of the contest and Duk Koo Kim's mother. I also recall watching a relatively low budget film based on this called the Champion, not sure if any of you have seen this. Just remembered the story whilst browsing through my DVD collection. Many questions can be raised from this particular fight and many different perspectives - Whats yours?
Collins - Resto was also very tragic, especially as some believe that the fatal accident was in fact an act of suicide but the fact that so many lives were ended/ruined by the Duk Koo Kim fight...
The Kim-Mancini fight ended up being a tragedy, but Mancini fought completely honorably (as did Kim of course). The same cannot be said of Resto and Panama Lewis.
