I feel McKenzie is slipping off the radar a bit, becoming underated. It's true that he lost a few but he fought at a very high level and was a three weight titlist, I think the first Brit to hold "World" titles at three weights since Fitz did it properly? Undoubtedly he was not the same man after dropping the decision to Jimenez & the loss to Del Valle is problematic, but i'd suggest that with his multiple weight victories and 4 year run at the highest level, he is a greater fighter than McGuigan who seems to be the more lauded. For this last generation he is probably better known as a commentator. Any of you have any memories of McKenzie? Any thoughts concerning his legacy?
He's no real three weight titleist.A paper champion at best. He wasn't a bad fighter, but nothing special either. Some really terrible losses on his record.
He was a underrated fighter, good natural facets of a good jab, speed and agility, but was always a bit chinny.
...he is a three weight titlist. I've been careful not to call him champion, but he held the IBF flyweight title, the WBO bantamweight title and the super bantamweight title. Three titles, three weights.
A good, disciplined titlist, but I think it was Steve Robinson who exposed him as being rather mediocre at the top level. His chin was also very suspect. I liked to watch his style though. There was something very proper about it: not too scientific, not too primitive. It's worth noting that there were big question marks over many of his losses.
His commentry is funny as hell sometimes, but hes very passionate when he talks, very much like his boxing,he was pretty good i used to enjoy watching him, nice to see a brit do well.
