World class amateur Olympic boxers go from fighting other world class talents in the amateur ranks to fighting tomato cans with 1-5 records upon turning pro. What's that about? Never understood why they have to have 10 of these fights before moving on. Is it purely money, marketing the fighter to get highlight reel KOs?
No more head gear. Longer fights. Go from scoring points to guys trying to take your head off. Gotta ease into it.
Amateurs these days don't use headgear anymore either. Some of these amateur tournaments like WSB are bridging the gap with 5 x 3 minute rounds too.
Theatrical ring walks! I don't need to watch fools dancing their way into the ring followed by some incoherent rapper. Just walk your ass in
A lot of established fighters don't want to take the risk of fighting promising debutants, so most amateur stars that turn pro are forced into building their records from the bottom and getting their name out there in the pro ranks before promoters start throwing big money behind them.
