Now when Hearn talks to fighters, they've only got "billion" on their minds and want only insane pay days.

This will fail and possibly be the end of Eddie.

That's 100% true. Wouldn't be so bad if he had the money, but as we all know, it's a 2 year deal with a ridiculous and obviously BS 6 year option to extend lol. The first 2 years could be worth 50mn for all we know with 950mn in the 6 year option.

The reason the option is there is to inflate the size of the deal from a maximum of 250mn for 64 shows up to 1bn and create a story for the press.

Matchroom is still infinitely smaller than all the major US promoters and Hearn knows it. Hearn is basically just another Lou DiBella. Has a couple of low draw fighters and puts on a few shows a year in New York.

Kownacki declined 3 fights for 1,5 Million Dollars! An amount of money he will NEVER make with Haymon.

Which has worked like a dream. He got headlines across the world and the sort of publicity that would cost a fortune to achieve through advertising.

In my opinion he overbid for Broner's favors. That guy doesn't seem able to win any big fight nowadays, and I believe he won't get much favorable judging anymore either.

As far as Kownacki goes, he's not one of the big fishes in the pond despite his size.

I think only idiots will do that. It's not even how business works. You get paid your worth. Just because someone has access to that much money doesn't mean that you should get paid so much more than your worth that they can't make money from you. This isn't charity. It is a business.

True. But knowing a budget only works in your favor. Especially when it comes to salary negotiations.

Broner is too arrogant and too stupid to see a good offer when offered one. I think he will be feeling very patriotic now he has laid a boot into the ribs of that sleazy limey who is trying to muscle in on the U S of A. Broner is a closet xenophobic and he don't even know it.

Finally, a poster on here with at least one brain cell. It has been quite difficult reading some of the rubbish that gets posted on here. I commend you for speaking with a clear mind. Thank you :)

It works until you go out to market and try and sign fighters who think you have $1bn more in the bank when you aint got sheet. Life is about follow through.

Just as the actress said to the bishop! Indeed it is and the proof of this approach will be in the pudding.

Maybe a lower key approach would've worked, although Hearn appears to have been in contact with many players pre this launch, so some of the commercials may already have been determined.

Still, if you're trying to break into a mature market with well established players I think you need to show people that your serious and well backed, because they are entrusting a significant portion of their short career and in the short term they will be fighting in front of significantly smaller audiences.

This was always going to break as big news eventually. So if it were me I'd have taken the same approach, inflate the headline figure, ladle on the hype and make as big a splash as possible. Take the PR uplift and move on.

Everything has a budget. That's how the game works. If fighters want to price themselves out then they can side on the sidelines, stay inactive, get stripped and then come running back.
