Yeah, I'd go with this. Of course, Liston has a 'chance', he's Liston. If he set out a deliberate gameplan to try to wipe Joe out in six minutes then it could go in his favour, but this would be unlikely and around 1968+ Frazier really started cooking, he'd be way too much for a 52-year-old Sonny. :good

Britannica Encyclopedia actually has him in his fifties when he is killed.

Walcott the ref ,who was running around like a headless chicken claimed he was worried Ali was about to kick Sonny while he was down, now that would have been a bit much," get up you yellow dog you!"

He did hit Mike DeJohn while DeJohn was on the floor.

SONNY LISTON (TWO YEARS AFTER THE FIGHT): "I can tell you what happened there. Ali knocked me down with a sharp punch. I was down but not hurt, but I looked up and saw Ali standing over me. Now there is no way to get up from the canvas that you are not exposed to a great shot. Ali is waiting to hit me, the ref can't control him. I have to put one knee and one glove on the canvas to get up. You know Ali is a nut. You can tell what a normal man is going to do, but you can't tell what a nut is going to do, and Ali is a nut."

Mate.. I wasn't refuting what you had posted.. simply highlighting a sentence from Liston and remarking on it.

Liston had made numerous references towards the Clay antics that concerned him and his veiw on Clay's mental stability.

Thanks for the news on the DeJohn incident.

Sonny was a terrible actor, that was one of the worst dives since Jake Lamotta vs Billy Fox....Sonny should have taken a few but I guess he knew Ali did not know that he was taken a dive. The other thing about Sonny was he did not do real hard time he was in a state Pen but only did less than 5...he had the look and I remember being a kid and thinking this guy (prison story) and the look can beat anyone but he did lose early in his career...Ali was so scared of Liston that his adrealine was going crazy and worked in his favor...Liston had the impassive look, so did Louis

sonny was too slow to beat ali. ali didn't need any fix whatever way you look at it - ali was gonna win easier the 2nd time than the 1st. unlucky for sonny that he fought a near peak ali - an ali who was full of confidence after their first fight - knowing that sonny quit before he could ko him in the 8th as he predicted. frazier and foreman fought a inferior version - lucky for them.
