I don't think the O2 crowd intimidated Cordoba but it certainly did seem to give Dunne a tiny bit of extra heart. If Poonsawat put's Dunne on the canvass will that will of the fans have an effect. Obviously a ko punch is a ko punch but in the Cordoba fight I really do believe the crowd played an active part. What are your views on this?

Yes, having the crowd behind you in a tough fight helps drive you on and keep your work rate up.

The atmosphere for the Dunne/Cordoba fight was the best I've ever witnessed anywhere, I'm sure the crowd played a huge part in Dunne's ability to come back from almost certain defeat. He was only seconds away from being stopped at the end of the 5th, but the crowd really rallied behind him and from the sixth round onwards he began to break down Cordoba until the stoppage finally came and the O2 went into meltdown,The hair's were standing up on the back of my neck and there were total strangers jumping on me and embracing me, a truly special night and here's hoping the crowd for the Poonsawat fight can produce the same kind of Atmosphere!

Good luck to Dunne. I love to watch him fight, but I'm afraid he'll be overmatched by most of the division's elite. I'm almost surprised they didn't just try to set up the biggest money fight they could find rather than taking the mandatory, since there's a decent chance Poonsawat beats him (12 of his last 14 wins are by KO, and we all know Dunne's beard ain't the best in the world).

In any case, having that crowd behind him certainly can't hurt, and as was seen this past weekend, sometimes it can influence the judges as well if the fight actually goes the full 12!

Well thats a good thing, its the way all fighters should be going about their careeers, fighting whoever is legitmately next in line....
If Dunne wins, then there is no doubt that he is top 5 in the division and deserves his placing and any future championship fights that come his way.
He who dares wins and all that....

Poonsawat's KO record has been boosted against a fair few overmatched opponents in 07/08. I'm not saying he doesn't hit hard (I've barely seen any of his career) but it's definitely made him look that bit more formidable. Here's hoping for another great fight anyway.

Ah yes, Mike McGurn has played a huge role. I guess that helped Dunnes fitness and mental strenght. They said in the PR they could improve him three fold but I wouldn't go that far. You have to wonder how Dunne fought without this guy in his corner before. Dunne has a nice bit of power in that left hook and you just wonder if there is a possibility of him surprising us all and stopping poonsawat? I know Dunne has a 3.5 inch height advantage (according to box rec) but not sure what the reach advantage is?

The day Dunne won the world title was a huge day for Irish sport. It started early days when Ireland won the Grand Slam and just going to the point you knew something special was going to happen and holy **** it did big time. The fans that night was amazing and people were up dancing on there seats at the end and I dont know who the **** was beside me but I got a bear hug off the geezer. Proper celebrations only short of people trying to get into the ring it was that good. I cant wait for this fight this time I will be up in the gods watching it but **** it I will be there.:happy

LOL I just noticed Dunne isn't even a champion hes a "regular WBA" title list.

What a ****in joke, 3 WBA champions.

Winner should fight the other guy ASAP.... this is ridiculous...

Hope Dunne wins tho, he seems like a warrior... i need to see that last fight i heard it was wonders.

I reckon he's got his hands full with this guy. Between the padding of his record he's got some good scalps.

It should be a candidate for FOTY but i dont think enough people saw it for it to make the shortlist
