Bernard Dunne fans are probably the worst in the sport mate, just wait and see what they are believing after a year of careful promoting now.

 

Most of the cheer boys are notable by their absence. Some of the **** that was being spouted after the Cordoba scrap was absolutely amazing.

Killer for Dunne. I rewatched the Kiko loss too, it goes without saying that repeated heavy knockouts really shorten your career and this second loss would seem to confirm a real problem here.

 

I think a few Irish posters are mind numbingly biased in favour of their fighters, and simply cannot hear a bad word said about any of them.

So what, your man got knocked out - he can always come back.... he's done it before.

At featherweight hopefully - he looked dead on those scales.

I doubt a Munroe fight will happen right now.... he has Maludrottu to deal with and probably a title fight should he emerge victorious - Dunne will want a few easy fights after that.

 

At the fight last night have to say I thought he won the first 2 rounds. Dunne started well good high gaurd in the first round and boxed him. Second round the high gaurd started to lower as the round went on and Dunne was lucky to get this round off me.

The last round it looked like everything went out the window his defence looked shot and got caught with some punches. The first KO was a classy punch and the way he went down I didn't think he would get up. Once up and under pressure like that he hasn't got the defence to hold out the round. He never went to tie up the Thai after the first KO. The second KO the ref maybe should of stopped it there. Brave to get up but then again he couldn't see out the round and try to tie up the Thai.

Dodgy chin maybe got tempted into a war which he didn't need to do so early in the fight and only has himself to blame for it. It will be interesting to see what he does after the dust settles if he moves up a weight or calls it a day. Mandatory fights are always hard fights to have on your first title defence everyone likes a easy fight to start your defence in style which never happen.

For Dunne to go on in boxing I would love to see him head back to the US for some more training and I think he is too settled here training wise. Get out of the country in a training camp anywere come back and fight his way up again. Only 29 has had 2 hard fights this year I hope he takes the rest of the year off to think everything over and come back fresh next year.

 

there was a thread made a while back where i stated how this match up was probably the worst for dunne out of the top 5 at super bantam and featherweight

i know he was mandatory but they could have avoided him somehow, dunnes chin has always been suspect and his power wasnever going to be enough to make the thai think twice about coming in to range to land shots, the thai never knocked down before or stopped, surely there were ways around this guy had peters opened his wallet upbetter they could of got someone else surely

 

Thing about Dunne is we all know he has the ability to win these fights but his chin is weak. Getting stopped by Martinez showed it and so did the Cordoba fight, it's testament to his tremendous heart that he managed to win that fight. It's his heart which makes me think it won't be too long before we see him back again either. Was hoping he'd win last night as well, Irish boxing could have done with a boost after what happened to Sutherland.

 

Commentary really was terrible, I have to say. Maybe they didn't have a monitor or something?

 

Nah it's mainly a case of Jimmy Magee being so old he used to commentate on fights under London prize ring rules.

I'm gutted with what happened last night(although I did win a few quid).
I think Bernard can come again though, it will be difficult to imagine him picking up another World belt though. He'll have to hope Steve Molitor manages to pick up the IBF soon enough, because that's his only chance at Super-Bantamweight really.

A fight with Munroe would be perfect for Dunne if he can get it, but the binman will be occupied with Maludrottu and whatever fighter Maloney can find on the path of least resistance.

I'm not convinced moving up to Feather would really improve Bernard's punch resistance either, he was floored at Feather in America and was on ***** street at Feather for over a minute v Yuri Voronin. Featherweight will mean fighting bigger punchers too.

Although if he can't get a fight with Munroe, the European title at Featherweight may be a good option. I don't think motivation will be a problem either, you could see in the interview afterwards that although he was gutted, he was still fired up and wanted to not only continue fighting but go on to achieve more. It'll be a hard road, but if anyones got the heart for it he will.
