Duran (Buchanan) easily beats mayweather

I don't think that is trash at all, more like strong facts and I don't care who thinks I look silly. These boards are filled with posters who post the same comments over and over, and somehow that is ok. I think the weight and 154 pounds is a significant fact if people are going to make excuses for Roberto being this small guy fighting bigger guys, and Benitez started lighter also and his best weight was 154. People don't seem to know facts and that is significant, and then Iran Barkley says how strong Duran was. I think that is silly for people not to know facts and still come up with the same things about Duran. Smallest of all the fab 4 and this poor little guy moving up. who could win titles at 160 and fight at 168 later in his career. And of all the fab 4 he weighed the most in his retirement I am sure.. He looked to be near 250 pounds.

 

I understand the point you are trying to make … BUT I do not think it holds water because it is basically irrelevant because Duran is 5-9 years older then the rest, and he climbed a lot more weight than the rest .. he was at 118-120, basically he was a bantamweight … so him getting to or fighting at 154 compared to the rest is completely different.. don't you agree?

 

So Duran loses to De Jesus but beats Floyd?

See, there are two side to this.

 

The Floyd that beat Corrales was probably at least 135 lbs in the ring. I'd give him a good chance against Duran.

Trying to portray Duran weighing 151 pounds in a single 1978 fight against an absolute nobody (1-3-0) as important and meaningful to him not being a smaller guy than Leonard, Hearns and Hagler is quite frankly absurd.

7 1/2 months earlier he defended his 135 pound title against DeJesus at 134 1/4!!! The guy was moving to 147 and had a quick 4 minute warm up to stay active. He had sparring partners better than this guy. Duran completely skipped 140 and moved up two divisions, three if one is silly enough to put weight in this rubbish.

Yes Benitez started lighter and was at his best weight at 154. Guess what? Duran started as a junior featherweight!!!! Was that HIS best weight?? Sure wasn't Junior Feather.

Did Benitez have 63 fights at an earlier division spread out over a decade before moving up and finding his best weight?!!?!?!!? Umpteen title defenses and pure dominance?

Lets go another way. Duran had over 60 fights before ever getting as high as 154. Tell me how many fights SRL, Hearns and Hagler had before they fought as high as 154? Duran fought over a decade before weighing as high as 154, how many years did SRL, Hearns and Hagler fight for before hitting as high as 154??

Talk about agenda laden and absurd.

 

Yeah, his bias is obvious enough. But the Duran bias seems pretty clear to me otherwise in this thread. You get the notion it would be pretty straightforward for Duran, but I don't see much reason for thinking so. Even talk of a KO, when he couldn't even get a proper KO over Buchanan.

Yes, Floyd struggled with Castillo in their first fight (should have lost imo), but Castillo was at least a WW in the ring, so the question is how relevant that is for a 135 lbs match-up with same day weigh-in. And let's not forget that Duran struggled a bit with De Jesus and the Viruet brothers. I don't think he was giving up 10 lbs in the ring to any of them, as Floyd did to Castillo.

To bring up one Floyd's worst performance (where he reportedly carried an injury), but forgetting the times Duran struggled in his prime is a pretty clear sign of agenda to me.

For me this is a pick 'em fight. We can as well use the Corrales version of Floyd, since he probably was about 135 lbs in the ring. And Floyd at that time was not the potshot artist he would later become, but more active and intent on putting hurt on his guy.

 

Not an agenda. I think the agenda is trying to make a guy seem small who was not so I have to correct it. This is about being fair and Duran weighed in at 154 before Hearns/Benitez and Leonard did, and the fact is people will remember this point. I think the point is valid, sure he was shorter, but Barkley mentioning his strength is significant. Where he started is not important considering growth and size, and he was not like Chavez, he was a bigger man naturally. Skipping 140 is significant also since the jump to 147 was that easy for him, and that is where the 154 tuneup fights matter. Duran had over 60 fights, but did you know who had more fights overall amateur and professional total? Hearns.. Of all the fab 4 he had the most. We can nitpick but many people count amateur fights as something, since Curry is seen as having too many. So I think this is significant and valid,, and why not mention it? Duran was not washed up in 1980 at all. And he fought until 2001..

of all this is the Roberto Duran haters and pernell and floyd lovers are the ones who lose out in the long run. We Duran lovers get to watch an ultra exciting lightweight/welterweight from 67-80, then an occasionally exciting boxer/puncher from 81-on sometimes on sometimes off. Whitaker and Mayweather fans are stuck watching those twos careers. Dreck! Insomnia! Suicide is preferable! Just goes to show you get what you deserve !! !!!!.

 

It is possible to watch all three of them, you know. Youtube doesn't require fanclub membership to show a fighter's fights.

You are the only human being i have seen mention this "point" during a decade in here reading tens of thousands of posts and reading hundreds of mags and articles.

More confusion about weight equating to size, as well as ignoring the concept of an optimum fighting weight or why skipping a weight might sometimes make more business sense - it appears...

 

It's certainly not impossible this could be pretty straight forward for Duran even if unlikely. Floyd has certainly never faced anything like him. It's also possible Floyd could be a lot more awkward than some believe. He's extremely slick and talented.

I wouldn't call a KO completely and utterly out of the question particularly over 15. Duran has ATG power in both hands at 135. Floyd takes a good punch and is superb defensively however so you could certainly argue it unlikely.

Lets not forget this was an extremely raw far from finished version of Duran that fought Buchanan however he was also insanely aggressive and talented.

Yes they all have their average nights.

When would you say Duran struggled at 135 excepting the twice avenged DeJesus loss?

It would be a great matchup but i'd have Duran favorite myself and pick him to win.
