According to a source in James Lawton's" A Ringside Affair Boxings Golden Age",there was a party in Duran's dressing room after the second Leonard fight in which he quit.Stevie Arcel,Ray Arcel's Wife went to the dressing room to commiserate with Duran and could barely get in , there was a party in progress and Duran and his Wife were singing.Thoughts?

Something suspicious about that whole affair.
That fight has a real stink about it, and it's not just coming from Duran's pants.
I won't comment beyond that because people here are so set in their minds about what they think "No Mas" was all about and they can't see the wood for the trees.

Strange. That behavior is strange to me as I can imagine people at that level must be as competitive as me...I don’t want to party after loosing in monopoly let alone a prize fight.

Freddie Brown said Duran was 173lbs in September and still13 lbs over weight in November less than a month before the fight.Carlos Eleta said Duran was taking diuretics 3 days before the fight to get down to weight. Duran made the weight with a pound to spare. He then drank a thermos of consome' and half a flask of hot tea ,he followed this up with 2 large T Bone steaks fries, 4 large glasses or orange juice,2 cups of tea and 2 glasses of water, for desert he had a large orange.Four hours later he had half of another T Bone and several cups of tea.

I am not sure why this matters stylistically he would have always lost the rematch if he cannot cut off the ring.

I'd say it indicates wanton disregard for his training.

Leonard and Braintrust knew to secure the rematch very quickly as Duran would not be able to stop the party train in time to get fit. Such was the case. The Montreal fight was Duran's goldmine, the biggest payday by far for a child of the slums who had been hitting and being hit for money for more than a decade by that time. Everything past Montreal was gravy. And $8 million must have seemed like some imaginary number. A different mentality than the young, carefully managed Olympian in his third year fighting for cash.

Very Strange,,, after his huge payday the first fight, were they making sure there'd be three fights? I read where Durans management was told he looked listless in training and they said so? if he loses they'll be a third fight. Who knows the behind the scenes machinations

By the time of the second fight Duran had over a hundred camp followers, telling him what he wanted to hear and basically counter-manding his trainers orders.Carlos Eleta was a good guy would put a lot of Duran's$ in trust to protect it from being spent on yes men, camp followers and ridiculous fripperies.
