It is very odd. Also in tension with all the talk of Duran the ferocious, bloodthirsty, macho savage. If that Duran were frustrated by Leonard's antics, you would think he'd go down headbutting or throwing low-blows or forearms or whatever rather than turning his back and quitting.

But I can't imagine any scenario in which the logistics of a fix would have made sense.

What you don't understand is WE LIVED THRU IT LIVE. We were excited about the matchup 2 yrs before saw the rise of both fighters. Knew their individual aura. Saw the fights read and heard EVERYTHING before and after. You need to dig up nothing except for those who were not born yet and only view the fights thru history s lens. Anyone who folloed Duran for 8 yrs prior could tell you immediately that the Duran of Nov 80 was not the Duran of the previous career. That Duran was gone forever. NEVER to be seen again. Instead there was a quasi interested boxer/puncher fighting for a buck the next 20 years.

    Excellent post.

Carlos Palomino said the second Duran took off his robe he could see he was not in the same shape as Montreal.

When did he say that? Sounds like an after-the-fact quote.

Should go without saying by now but living through something obviously doesn’t make you an expert on it.

That’s a big difference between some of us. A lot of the people who gravitate toward classic boxing forums would rather just base their views on what they and other people remember about something that happened 30, 40, 50+ years ago. The rest of us believe in considering all the available evidence and reconsidering the conventional wisdom when it doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. To each his own, I guess.

You wanted a quote. I gave you one. Now you question it because it goes against your agenda. By the way do you have eyes? Can you not see the difference between Montreal & New Orleans? If not, then give up boxing. You are too
    obtuse for the sport.

New Orleans was NOT his most important fight ever.

That was his previous bout in Montreal, and it was already in the bag.

Work on your reading. I specifically asked for quotes from before Duran quit.

The differences between Montreal Duran and New Orleans Duran are highly exaggerated. Just like all the other details about these fights. Two competitive fights (especially the first one).

If I ever get to the point where I’m making dumbass “I know because I LIVED THRU IT!!” arguments, please boot me permanently and send me some recommendations to good assisted living facilities.

In the meanwhile, happy holidays to all!

I say if Morlocks lived through the era, has been watching boxing for 40 plus years, knows the history of it and many other fighters as well , read a ton of books, has seen over well 1,000 fights, has seen most of Duran fights, maybe live? And followed him closely throughout his career... That absolutely makes him an expert on it. I can't say that for myself.. Although opinions do vary, that qualifies as an expert in my book

I want to thank the academy. All the little people I stepped on and cheated on my way to the top. Myy sidekick MARKANT & all the other sycophants who blindly follow me. Remember "It is not tragic to die doing what you love". It all began in a 500 watt radio station in Erie, Pennsylvania.....

What is the use of experince on a subject in life LIVE if some dingbat 40 yrs later who was not even there can tell you what you saw heard and experienced is wrong? It's like going to Louis fights in the 30s and seeing him wear purple robe and shorts. Every fight. But someone 70 yrs later says he read he wore green. So you are wrong because some person he read got it wrong. But you saw Louis live in purple every fight.
