Duran looked great whenever someone fought his fight. Even against Barkley 9 years later, he looked great I thought. Barkley was in range and Duran could work his magic. Against Moore he looked ok. Against the elites he faltered. Benitez,Hearns, Ray rematch. The opponents made him lose not Duran himself. If it were up to him he would have kept winning if they fought him without his range.

Yes, and as Man Machine stated in an earlier post, his motives (for not wanting to fight anymore) remain a blur.
    We just don't know.

Why did Buddy McGirt stop fighting pretty much at the end of round one when he fought Taylor. Or Lloyd Honeghan stop trying to win against Starling. Duran just stopped during the fight decided to not fight. He is the one to answer that. I think honestly he saw something he did not want. I don't think it was because he was embarrassed, I think he could see that he was going to possibly get stopped.

I see your point, I just don't see how it is a blur. He quit. Why do we need more clarification? He quit. He didn't want to fight Ray. If he thought he could win he would not have quit.

    Another interesting observation.

I'm sure this take is enough to have the Leonard fans in quiet fits...

I can't remember the McGirt v Taylor fight.
I can remember the Honeyghan v Starling and the way I remember it Honeyghan took quite a beating in that one.

If Duran was taking a beating or anything close, there really wouldn't have been so much surprise and controversy.

I agree, we don't need more clarification.
He quit and it was a disgraceful quit job.
The reason it was so disgraceful is precisely because there seems to be no forgivable reason for it in terms of what was happening in the ring.
It was so bad it's easy to believe he wasn't trying to win.
I don't know what more I can tell you.
    It stinks.
I'm certainly not inclined to give Duran a pass because "SRL landed punches".

When I said "Anyone", I was referring to people that weren't willingly fooling themselves with repeated claims to the contrary (as though the continual repetition of the same biased statements somehow represent a balanced viewpoint).

If that is the case then the folks who planned it were none too bright.

Why would they do it that way? I thought the idea was to make it look good.

Maybe Duran thought he could coast and lose a decision but got bored and frustrated by it and quit instead. He went off script. Like I said before, the better a fighter is, the less he's going to know how to lose convncingly. Nobody knows.
The fact is, very few people are willing to entertain the idea that perhaps "the fix was in", so I'd say they did fine if it was fixed.
It's almost as if people think "it looks too fake to be fake", which is a contentious concept in itself.

Anyway, the man was paid $ 8 million and quit before the fight even got started.
Whatever explanation people have for that, it seems virtually criminal in my eyes. Whether you suspect an outright premediated 'fix' or not. Whatever happened, it's not far off that level of scandal.
