I honestly think Duran would rise to the occasion and nip this one. McCallum liked to fight at Duran's range. And Mike wasn't as seasoned as he would be later. I think Duran would figure him out.

Would I bet my gun collection on it? No, but I might down a hundy.

Duran lost to Kirkland Laing and was embarrassed by Benitez. I love Duran but at that point for him it was all styles … the only fight he over performed was against Hagler but that was on Marvin who for all his incredible talent had self doubt and didn’t go balls to the wall just like Vito 1 and against Leonard. If Hagler had Monzons confidence he would have been an all time top ten P4P fighter.

Duran had a bad spell in his career losing to Laing, Benitez, in 1982. But the thread states between 1983-1984 and Duran did regain with good performances vs Moore, Hagler.

I think people keep forgetting in 1983-1984 McCallum wasn't fighting against top opposition he was going 15 rounds against the likes of Sean Mannion.

Duran would've been a huge step up in class for McCallum who wasn't really mixing it at the highest level at that point in his career.

Duran would doze off watching film of the Mannion fight and not wake up in time to make the first bell, losing by forfeit.

I'm assuming a focused, engaged Duran. That might be quite a leap of faith.

Nobody could suffer through watching McCallum-Mannion and be focused and engaged. One could, however, be put into a deep, restful sleep.
