Yes, prior to his loss to Duran, Davey Moore had beaten good dude's like "Kalule & Guiden" on network TV... Moore was not as green as his pro record indicated....
    :yep:deal

    P.S.

Moore looked shot in his '87 loss to Lupe Aquino... That was on the undercard of "Leonard-Hagler."

Duran never really hurt or rocked Hagler, but he did cut him good late in their '83 title bout....

Duran rocked Moore and hurt / TKO'd Moore inside 8 rds.... Hagler was a new kind of beast at 160 pounds in Nov. 1983....... Duran hung in there well, but was several points behind Hagler after 15 rds, regardless of the close Vegas scores......

I think Duran, as he got older, heavier and more disadvantaged, placed more emphasis on defence and points scoring similar to how James Toney fought in his later career. Side effects of this method are hooks that lack leverage and power. Duran, as a lightweight, piled into his opponents (with skill) and put everything into his punches.

It was this style change, plus the obvious fact he was fighting naturally larger men. Every now and then Duran would throw everything into a right hand or land it perfectly and he could still put people down.

People, I know Moore had some wisdom teeth extracted a few days before the fight with Duran, but so what.?.? I had my lower wisdom teeth yanked the day of the "Chavez-Whitaker" fight of 1993... Yeah, my gums and jaw were sore as hell that evening, but I went to a club the next night to see the 'Bullet Boys' jam a gig in Garden Grove, CA. and I was fine... Drank beer and even puffed a little weed....... Besides, Moore was cocky as hell and a 4 to 1 favorite to beat Duran's ass on June 16, 1983 up in New York..... Who's fault is it that Duran failed to comply with the odds-makers????

As for the thumb, well, **** happens..... If you think Duran pre-planned the thumbing of Moore in round 1, than you are nuts.... I'm sure Duran spotted the opportunity and took it, but it wasn't planned......

Also, the original promotion was slated for South Africa and Ray Mancini was suppose to fight Kenny Bogner as a co-feature, but the initial promotion fell apart for various reasons....

Hell, I even recall Bob Arum claiming Frank Sinatra was gonna perform, too...

It all turned out to be too good to be true....

Duran didn't plan his thumbing of Buchanan either ?
Also , from what I remember , they weren't wisdom teeth , and also , even if they were (and I think they weren't) fighting after their removal is not exactly like going 2d bar n puff some weed (which btw eases pain) .
and btw , removal of teeth weakens d jaw , even wisdom teeth (which i think they weren't) .

Regardless of the type....... Moore had dental surgery leading up to his massacre by Duran back in '83 at MSG..... Prior to the opening bell, Moore looked pumped and psyched..... Fact is, Moore was a novice champ and Duran was a seasoned pro who came to fight...... 'Nuff said.....
