The other thread got me thinking about this one. Norris is a guy that has not stood the test of time well. But when he was on his run, his tools were top notch and he usually brought his B game to the fights were he was heavily favored. Against the cream, he was usually at his best. And Roberto was so spotty at higher weights. That pedestrain effort against Benetiz. And I thought he lost 9 rounds of that Laing fight and made that guy look like Ray Robinson in there. Davey Moore was a guy w/ not much of a defense and willing to trade with anyone. Norris is not going to fight that way. His openings are nowhere near that magnitude, but he does have his warts. Thoughts on how this one plays out?
I like the speedy Norris by UD. Duran was just too inconsistent from 154 on up, and didn't have the sharpness or stamina to wear down an opponent the way he did at LW. Terry would have almost as easy a time with this chunky version of Duran as he did Leonard, if not easier.
Norris by UD if he stuck to his gameplan and boxing. If he brawled, Duran could catch him and stop him. He would not stop Duran.
Norris by Ud. Duran will have his moments if he can get Norris' back on the ropes but don't bet on it.
I agree with the rest. Norris was the worst kind of stylistic match for Duran at 154 and above. Long reach, quick, powerful and a high workrate.
It's a tribute to duran's greatness he gets pitted in fantasy matchups 20 pounds north of his prime weight :good As great as duran was, norris was a supreme light middleweight and it would take a very special performance for duran to beat him. If he fought like he did vs hagler then he has a chance, but considering how old he'd be and how far removed from his prime he'd be you'd have to favour the terrible one here.
4 some reason it reminded me that redrooster himself picked Carmen Basilio over Terry Norris , which kind of backfired against Norris' hater , Waynegrade .
judging by the Laing fight and Benitez, Norris wins with his speed. He beats late 80s hagler too no sweat
If Duran got into the type of shape he was in for the Hagler fight he would send Norris to the land of Nod, without doubt. Anything less and you'd have to tip the scales in Norris' favour. But with his china, who the hell knows, Duran could still jag a win.
Why do u think that Norris would have beaten Duran (speed&skills , right ?) but not Basilio ? I respect Basilio myself , but Duran had more longevity and more impressing wins than Basilio , and a wider range of weights . So do u think Duran would have been 2 small , and Basilio would have been big enough ?
