His right against Hagler was not a fully extended right. He was almost backing up as he threw it sometimes so he was not countered. And again like I said, there are different rules for Duran. He loses the fight somehow he gets credit. He lost to all the guys Hearns,Hagler,Leonard,Benitez. His only great win was against Ray, and Ray fought his fight and it was a close fight.

Another thing! Duran/Leonard I is actually made out to be a shellacking by some of our Classic posters. It's comical. It was a shellacking, a schooling, a dominant victory. It was actually none of those things. Duran rightfully got the verdict in a close, competitive 15 round fight.

Duran was not that small a guy. He fought at 154 in 1978 before Hearns or Leonard or Benitez ever fought there. Later he weighed 220, and went even higher after he retired. He is not this little guy like Humberto Gonzales. He was the same height as Dwight Qawi, who fought as high as heavyweight, just to bring up a ridiculous fact.

Duran was too slow for Hearns and Leonard and Benitez. Too small? No. The key was quickness and quality of opposition. Duran's right hand could have knocked out any of them had he landed it clean. He just didn't.

Duran has a good excuse. He fought tuneups at 154 as early as 1978, yet people say he was a small guy who fought at 130-140.. Hearns started at 147, yet won a title at 175 pounds against the best guy at that weight. If Duran did that it would be talked about daily.

You're actually making points? You actually have something to say? Dude, so far all I've seen you do is repeatedly post a picture of Duran holding some money.

O/T Did anyone see Ray Leonard on Punked a few years back, they staged his son writing off a car without insurance, Ray seemed really cool and collected and didn't blow up at all from what I remember (I was watching with 1 eye shut)

    Did anyone see?

It was an impressive show, although the Lalonde fight would have been more impressive had Ray not had Donny lose to the 168 pounds weight. Donny was the 175 pound champ, and Ray gets him to fight at 168 so they could fight for the vacant 168 pound title and Donny's title at 175. So he is fighting a guy not ranked at 168 for a title in a division he never fought in. Then he wins Donny's title when Donny is weak. That was why at the time people were upset with Ray. He was manuevering the sport for the record books and also to beat Hearns to 5 titles. As it turned out, Tommy won his 5th title 3 days before Ray won his. Tommy fought the guys for the titles he won at their weight.

For Duran to be the greater fighter he has to have the greater wins and he doesn't. He beat one great, who then made him quit and beat him again in a rubber match. Ray beat greats. Duran,Hearns,Benitez,Hagler. How is Duran greater? That is the question I have for Duran fans who say he is greater than Ray. His lightweight reign would not get him 1-10 ATG, so what does? Combining a mediocre lightweight reign where he was dominant with his losing to all the greats he fought and having a long career does not make him 1-5 ATG. I did always argue that Hearns had the better wins than Duran. Cuevas for his first title. Benitez for his second, 3 light heavy titles. first man to win 4 and 5 titles. The Hagler fight. His wins against better fighters is better than Durans. Does anyone argue that?

"Try and hit me! Try and hit me! Too fast!"

Just look at the flab rolling over Duran's trunks. He was in shocking condition. How did he ever make it through the first round?

that isn't flab. Duran couldn't deal with Ray from the beginning of round one. This was Sugar Ray Leonard showing up and fighting his fight. Duran taught him how to be a complete fighter in the first fight, to use tactics before the fight and to fight his fight. Ray mastered Duran after the first fight. You guys have to see that.
