Over the last while, I've had two posters tell me that the 38 year old Mayweather was a better fighter/boxer than the 38 year old Duran, which I happen to disagree with.

    So what do others think?

Does Mayweather box Duran's ears off like he did against Pac and get a decision win, or does Duran pressure him and hurt him enough to force a stoppage or drop him enough times to eek out a points victory?

I favor Duran in this one, simply because he was able to beat current (at that time) middleweight champion of the world, who was young, tall, big, strong and hit pretty hard.

Floyd however was pretty fast even in his 38 so his speed could be problem for Duran.

But Floyd lost a step obviously as was evident in his fights vs average Maidana, and his fight vs past prime Pac wasn't a blueprint how Floyd would win vs Duran.

I think it would've been a close fight and I'd pick Duran. Don't forget he was bigger at that stage than Floyd :good

Floyd would outspeed Duran. An old Leonard easily did so in Roberto's fight after Barkley. I think Floyd has more left than that version of Leonard.

I gotta pick Mayweather in this scenario. I don`t think this version of Duran could create enough openings against Mayweather`s style and defense. He was more of a plodder and counterpuncher by this time.

    Duran's pressure gets to him.

This. Barkley was a crude fighter. They're the type to get beaten by old savvy fighters (Holmes-Mercer, Hopkins-Pascual, etc).

Mayweather Duran too slow and old at this point. Prime vs prime I'm picking Duran but not this version.

Damn I remember Duran as being pretty good that night. Evidently I don't remember well enough! So PBF against old Duran is just too fast then?

Strange thread. Floyd never fought at 160 pounds. I guess he would ne be effective at that weight, so Duran by UD.

I'm pretty sure Canelo was bigger than Duran.

I too remember Duran being very good that night. I also remember thinking during the Mayweather -Pac fight that if Mayweather was fighting Duran he'd have had his hands full and when Pac had Mayweather on the ropes he let him off the hook l remember thinking Duran wouldn't have. I also don't recall Barkley being all that slow, but perhaps time is playing tricks on me.

Duran was good that night. I thought he lost a close decision but it was an impressive performance given his age and stature. That being said, Mayweather is a completely different kettle of fish. Compared to Barkley he's much smarter, quicker, faster, defensively skilled, precise, and a better counterpuncher. Impressive that Duran could take punches from a middleweight but doesn't say much about how he would have fared against a gifted, skilled fighter like Mayweather at that stage of his career.

Mayweather would still have too much speed for Duran so this indicates a points decsion for him. Duran bigger and stronger, though.

    Tough one.
