Lloyd Honeghan had his moment in the sun on Sept 27 1986, broadcast by Showtime. But in his title defenses against Maurice Blocker, Gene Hatcher, Johnny Bump City Bumphus, Yung Kil Jung, and Jorge Vaca were not so impressive. He was exposed by Marlon Starling and Mark Breland.

I agree Leonard would beat Honeyghan too but the thread is Duran v Honeyghan.

There aren't that many welterweights I'd confidently pick over Montreal Duran and clearly Honeyghan is not one of them!

    Duran.

Similar approach but too skilled and has the toughness to survive any Rocky moments should they arise.

This would be a good fight to be honest. Lloyd was high energy, but against Duran? It would be the kind of fight Duran would love and win in about 6 or 7 rounds. It would be a lot of action for awhile, and I do think the handspeed of Lloyd would not make it interesting. I just think Duran would enjoy the fight and being able to be in range. I always thought Honeyghan was better than just a guy who caught Curry on a bad night. He was 26-0 if I remember correctly and that Hatcher fight showed something to me.

If Lloyd Honeyghan had trouble with the likes of Jorge Vaca, imagine what a 147 lbs Roberto Duran would have done to him. Lloyd would not be able to intimidate Duran with that mean looking stare in ring center. Roberto would have thought that this was another street fight for him. Roberto would have had that Charles Manson look on his face, according to what Smoking Joe Frazier once said, watching Duran fight. Lloyd would constantly be on the retreat, Duran would batter his torso from pillar to post, throwing in a few elbows for good measure. Roberto by KO 8.

Montreal Duran destroys ANY version of Honeyghan.
If the fight goes 10rds it would only be because Duran
wants to torture him for his arrogance.
I also believe he wouldn't have beaten Curry if he wasn't
weight drained and distracted by personal and managerial
    issues.

Can u imagine Loyd trying to give Duran a mean stare? He would begin to melt as soon as Duran walked ring center and gave him the look! I'd love to have seen Loydd vs. Leanard though too

He did what he had to do by beating what was in front of him, a weight drained Curry. Not Honeyghan’s problem, he seized the moment. But basing him on this one night has no credibility in a fight against the force of nature that was Duran.
Duran and many more would have done the same to the shell of Curry, inthat night.

True, although not sure it was a shell, I think Loyd just had to much for him. An excellent performance. I'd never heard of him at the time, I was a fan of his abilities after that
