I was thinking earlier about how fighters develop styles, after reading about Tyson's development in his younger years. It got me thinking would a fighter like Duran fight the way he did no matter who trained him? I know his upbringing would determine a lot. But lets say Ingle was training fighters in Panama at that time and came accross a young Roberto. Do you think Duran would have fought differently when the chips were down?
the answer is an easy NO!! Duran is a natural, Ray Arcel along with Freddie Brown said when he was brought into the duran camp "Change Nothing" with regard to his style. What the hell could ingle do to improve on near-on natural fighting perfection!!
Dont get me wrong, Duran was never as face forward as the likes of Hatton, of course he had amazing boxing skills I just feel a huge part of his armoury was agression strength and heart rather than standing off and boxing. Hence why he didnt want any part of Leonard in their second bout.
The "Brendan Ingle" style is actually Herol Graham style. Before Graham came to his gym, I don't think there was any distinct Ingle style. Correct me if I'm wrong.
He was as slick as they come. True, but you don't need to 'stand off' to be a slick fighter, look at Locche, shoulder-to-shoulder with most of his opponents :good This is pretty much what I thought. Ingle may have developed the 'circle system' with Graham though. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_V0XBf9gB8[/ame] Maybe Spencer can shed some light :think
