Duran v Chavez who wins catch weight? i believe Chavez was stronger than Duran physically, and i think Chavez had a better chin.

Thing is though Duran was good offensively inclose and defensively good in the pocket. Where as Chavez was mainly just good offensive inside. He did slip a lot of punches to his credit, but he was easier to hit than Duran for the most part.

If Duran fought on the INSIDE i think he would come off second best. Not mid range or in the pocket, but actually INSIDE. The reason i say that is because i believe Chavez physical strength and extra durability would be too much when all said and done.

Dont get me wrong Duran was an excellent inside fighter, he proved that against Ray Leonard,Leoncio Ortiz, Vilomar Fernandez, De Jesus 2
    the guy was relentless.

However i dont think Duran would fought or beat Chavez that way. I think he would box him from mid range like he did against Moore,Barkely etc. He would use that upper body movement to roll and then come back with counters etc, and he would hold his own when he did eventually get inclose quarters etc.

I think Duran's boxing skills coupled with his own good chin toughness, relentlessness would of saw him through.

    Great fight though:good

Chavez is made for Duran's style. I am not a big fan of Roberto, but Chavez is a style he can beat. If you give Duran a guy who fights him inside then Duran will win. Duran was vicious inside. It would be a great fight.

Chavez stronger than Duran? Dude, break the crack pipe... Chavez never was able to hang on a world class level at 147 pounds.... The 145 lb. Duran who mauled Ray Leonard in Canada back in '80 was in PEAK condition to kick somebodies ass in the ring..... Both Chavez and Duran had a very similar body frame, but Duran had more strength since he went up to 147, 154 & 160 pounds to capture titles there.......

If anything, okay, perhaps Duran was drained a tad below 140 pounds.?.? That much is / was possible...... Still, at 135 to 140 pounds, I'll take Duran any day over Chavez....

Chavez, Arguello, Pryor, none of those guys are a match for Duran. Duran was good enough to beat a prime Sugar leonard. None of those 3 aforementioned came close to ever beating a fighter of Sugar's caliber. Duran had too much skill for Chavez, and would stop him in the latter rounds of a 15 round fight. Chavez could possibly go the distance, but prime Duran got stronger as the fight went on.

Leonard was not a physcial fighter.

Difference there was that at 147 lbs Chavez was not as devastating a puncher as he was at LW. Not to say he was a devastating puncher at LW, but its quite clear his punches didn't have the same effect at 147lbs.

Chavez was being criticized/questioned, because his punches did not have the same impact on Mayweather at 140. In the first fight at LW when he poleaxed Mayweather in 2 rounds.

Duran went upto 160, but he did not outmuscle Barkley he outskilled him from in the pocket. The reason Duran had more success at the higher weight was not, because of his physical strength its was, because of his extra Boxing skills that Chavez did not possess. Chavez punches didn't have the same impact at 147, he could not bully his opponents so much, and like i said he did not have the Boxing skills of Duran to fall back on.

Duran by TKO. Duran was the most ruthless and vicious champion ever. He style was impetious, his defense was impregnable.

De Jesus and Hearns penetrated his defence.

I too believe Duran was stronger. Let's forget 147. You said a catch weight. 140 would be ideal for both fighters. So imagine the Duran that came in at 147 for SRL fighting at 140. I see Duran winning by decision. Too much fire power and strength for Chavez. Chavez would get confused with all of Duran's mental prowess. Duran would most definitely get under Chavez's skin with all the macho trash talk and take advantage of his power shots.

pick em fight, at 135 I lean towards JCC. Roberto can't take it like JCC can, but he was quicker.
