"Duran took Cuevas' left hook....then moved inside and went to the body and head." A friend of mine has that fight and I saw it recently. That's exactly how it went. Great analysis :thumbsup You really got me thinking. I have to agree, Duran within 8 in a barnburner.
OK. I've honestly almost had enough. These people are ruining this ****ing forum. Seriously, what the hell is going on? They've been FLOODING this forum recently.
I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself before I permanently disqualify you. Why was Duran overrated? Why was he a lesser fighter than De La Hoya and Trinidad? How is Cotto equal to a prime Duran? Explain this logically, without bias, while showing a firm grasp of styles, techniques, and boxing history. Ready, set, go...
Duran UD DLH -- DLH would pose stylistic problems for Duran early -- when on his toes, Oscar had good movement and a snappy jab and strung together combinations well. Duran would slip and work his way inside, though, and his mauling, working out of the clinch, and inside-fighting would slow down Oscar by the 8th round. Duran will set a pace Hoya can't match, and would take a close but clear decision. Duran TKO 11 Trinidad -- I don't see this as the toughest fight for Duran. Tito, as hard a puncher as he was had a hell of a lazy jab at times and Duran can time that right hand over it all night. On the flip-side, Duran took Barkley's shots, he can take Tito, as long as he stays away from the left hook. Basically, Duran just has to watch the left hand -- no easy task, but Roberto has executed harder plans. It would be interesting to see how Roberto would deal with the ever-advancing Tito. Probably in-and-out, with sidesteps, either out of range or balanced for punching. Could very well be a UD, but I don't see Duran letting up. Tito had holes, and Roberto loves consistent mistakes by an opponent. -- Duran UD Cotto. Hard fight for Duran. I settle for outhustling Cotto for a decision, but very hard to picture, this one. Can't say as much sensible things about it. Cotto hasn't shown us everything yet.
Cotto - Duran TKO (same reasons as everyone else) De La Hoya - Duran UD (same reasons as everyone else) Trinidad - Duran UD I think he beats Trinidad because Felix needed his opponent at mid-range in order to get his shots off. If you watch Whitaker-Trinidad, you can see that Whitaker controls Tito on the inside and then gasses. If a shot, drugged-up Sweat pea could jab his way inside and beat Tito for the first half of the fight, no doubt Duran could. Duran would be able to slip Trinidad's punches and jab his way inside where he is at a massive advantage. It nuetralises Tito's size advantage and stops him getting full leverage on his left hook's. Up-close, Duran's higher work-rate and and relentless body attack would slow down Tito and allow Roberto to land short combos. Trinidad may nail Duran on his way inside (possible buzzing him a few times), but it probably won't be enough due to Duran's great defence and chin. Unlike Whitaker, a prime Duran would not gas out after 6 rounds. Duran wins by UD
Duran ko's Cotto at 5 Duran ko's Trinidad at 8 Duran UD Dela Hoya If anyone got a chance for an upset amongst the 3, I will pick Oscar by way of Majority Decision or by TKO (stoppage due to cuts). I think Trinidad will have a lesser chance for an upset compared to Oscar because of his shaky chin.
