Cuevas may have hit harder with the haymakers he used to throw (and sometimes land) but Duran was not going to be beaten in a brawl. He took Cuevas's best and destroyed him.

It was always going to be extremely difficult for Cuevas to use his usual brawling style against Duran and he seemed to think better of it by trying to stay away, although not for long.

In a prime for prime match-up, Duran would land two sharp punches to Cuevas's one, which Duran would cleverly roll with while Cuevas would take the punches flush. Imagine the result of that.

I think Duran's punching can get sold a bit short on here, but you would need to a disingenious contrarian scumbag to pick him over Cuevas for power.

    Jose Palacios (Mexican Welterweight)

    Fought and sparred with Pipino.

He also sparred with Roberto Duran.

And he also fought Carlos Palomino.

He said, by far, Pipino hit the hardest with his left hook. Like 'spikes' going
through your body. And 'sledge-hammers' hitting your jaw.

Palacios also made a good point, 'it was leverage'

He broke ribs, jaws and orbital bones.

Punch for punch, at 147 lbs., no one hit harder with the left hook.

His right hand was good, but not like the left.

I heard that a 14 y/o Tony Ayala humiliated him in a sparring session, proving that Ayala could have been P4P #1 had he not been falsely convicted!

Reports insinuate that he would make Pea, SRL, Manny & Floyd look sluggish!
