Being from Texas myself (Edinburg a suburb of San Antonio) I can back up these statements as factually accurate. The problem with Ayala was he reached what we call the Liston/BE zone the height and weight in which someone becomes so large and dense he shrinks, like a black hole or punctured souffle. So Ayala went from 73" to 76" to 82" with commensurate increases in reach and weight, before coming in to his full adult height of 5'8" and 154 lbs. It was remarkable to see.

Well, you know what they say. Conditioning, conditioning, conditioning. That's the name of the game for a good souffle.

Duran was just too much of a beast for Cuevas in '83........ Duran also brought more power and strength up at over 150 pounds, too.... The fights / records do NOT lie....... Cuevas was great merely at 147; nothing more..... Duran was all around ahead of Cuevas.........

Does anyone really believe Cuevas who is 7 years younger than Duran would've survived 12 rds with a 1989 version of Iran Barkley and won the gottdamn fight?

Duran was strong and still capable in '81 against Nino Gonzalez, but 156 was a wee too much at the time......... Still, Gonzalez was no ***** in Aug. '81.... Duran won and was / is superior to Cuevas......

This fight was going to be a war even though Cuevas was never the same after Hearns knocked him out.
