In 1975 and early-1976, the young teenager was 'tossed' in the ring with
    some fairly good Welterweights.

Saturday - January 25, 1975 (Mexico City, Mexico)

    'Main Event'

    17 year-old Pipino at 11-5-0 (11 KO's), a wild-swinging banger faced an
    experienced 29 year-old Mexican - Ruben Vazquez Zamora 42-13-0 (25 KO's), a
    one-time Top 10 contender.

'Pipino' went crazy over the first '5-Rounds trying not knock Zamora's head off.
Zamora, just laid back, and let 'Pipino' bang away.

But by the 6th-Round, Pipino was 'cooked', and was running on fumes. During the
last '4' Rounds, he floundered helplessly around the ring. He nearly got stopped by
Ruben in the last round, and barely escaped with a 'close' 10-Round Decision win.

Post-fight analysis, 'Pipino is strong, raw and powerful, but totally unrefined. He has a long, long way to go.'

This is a 'power only' question.

    Jose 'Pipino' Cuevas hit harder.

Left hook, it is not even close.

    Right hands, are equal.

    Southpaw,

I Love Roberto, he is 'mucho supremo' in overall skills.

But in punching power (alone), Pipino had 'the goods' with the left hand.

Former WBA Welterweight Champion, Angel 'Cholo' Espada who fought Pipino '3X'
(1976, 1977 and 1979), and also sparred with Roberto Duran several times.

'Cholo' Espada in a Miami TV interview, discussed being in the ring with both men.

Mr. Espada , 'Roberto hit very hard, which numbed your body. But Pipino, he broke
bones, dismantled body parts and ripped your skin apart. Pipino broke my jaw twice,
and once in 'two' different places. Roberto hit you good, but not to the point where
    you couldn't take it.'

You can ask mi amigo, Clyde Gray, how hard Pipino hit.

One left hook to the jaw, and he had no idea where Canada was....

So basically Pipino's left hook was devastating enough to hurt anyone he was in the ring with?
