This content is protected Two great lightweights. This is what boxing is all about. These two champions were lacking nothing. Speed, power, skills, it was all there. Great desire. Anybody that says Estaban DeJesus wasn't a great fighter doesn't their ass from their elbow. The other guy just had a little bit extra.
The speed he had in his prime is often forgotten. Though he is still a bit raw here compared to the finesse he would go on to display in the following years.
I would agree with that. There was alot of bad blood. Duran was foaming at the mouth to get at him. That is why DeJesus suckered him into another lefthook. Duran was coming after him like a he was a PitBull and DeJesus was a baby dipped in BBQ sauce.
Love this fight, just loaded it back into my you tube history queue. The punches are so fast and furious early on that you can barely even see them
One of my fav fights ever. The first six rounds are some brutal two way action and some terrific exchanges before Duran takes over. Duran was a beast during that time but Esteban was a special fighter in his own right. Great fight and Great fighters.
One of the all-time great Lightweight title fights. Duran wanted to get to De Jesus in the worst possible way early on and paid the price with the knockdown, and getting wobbled again near the end of that first round. The goading from De Jesus and Gregorio Benitez in the previous couple of years had really wound him up. The third round was a bit of a turning point as that was the first time Duran was really able to get close in to De Jesus and work the body, but as late as the tenth round De Jesus was still giving him problems. Duran was the better man on the night but man, what a contest. As for the third fight, though. Just an amazing, near-faultless performance from Duran. Brilliant in every aspect and De Jesus barely laid a glove on him that night. The perfect note for Duran to depart the Lightweight division on and arguably his greatest performance outside of Leonard I.
When you see fights like this and Durans win over Leonard you clearly see how the Pacmans ,Mayweathers , Spence and others are a level below these guys
I posted this yesterday before your DeJesus thread. (Pot meet Kettle) I appreciate the humor though. We often don't see eye to eye but I respect your boxing knowledge. I respect your opinion.
