But Benitez didn't really move or run from Duran.... Benitez was the bigger, younger man in 1982 at 154, but Duran was sluggish, as SRL stated over the HBO mic at ringside...... YET! It was Benitez' last great showing as a ringer, while Duran came back time and time again in the following yrs....... Peace...

This is Duran past his best, and where Oscar adopted the style that tended to give Roberto trouble.

    DLH by close decision.

which shows that Benitez beat him fair and square by boxing Duran, who was still to later fight greats Hagler and Hearns the next year. I don't mean lateral movement I mean outmanuevering and outspeeding Duran, which always beat Duran. Styles like Benitez and Leonard which rely on speed are more affected by years. I see your point but Ray saying that doesn't mean much. Fact is Benitez made Duran look sluggish. Ray Leonard also said at the time that no way would Hearns beat Benitez and he did.

Duran came back over and over and won later, but head to head matchups Benitez was more competitive with the other legends? Moore and Barkley were the best guys Duran post Benitez. Duran never beat another legend or great fighter.

As for Benitez/Duran- Benitez won a head to head legend matchup, which is much more significant. I never really considered Benitez a bigger man. Not much, both won their first titles at 135 and 140 a few years apart. Duran in 72 and Benitez is 76. SRL saying Duran was sluggish was probably a way to try and make it look like he beat the real Duran and Benitez beating him was because he was sluggish.

The "Davey Moore" Duran would immediately thumb Oscar in the eye to show him who was boss.....followed by a long beatdown of ODH till the fight is stopped in the 10th rd.

Oscar only has the advantage @135. Anything higher goes to Duran.

I would go with Oscar at 154...not really excited about seeing these 2 paired and even less so at this weight, but it is what it is!

My number 1 and number 2 all time fighters....Duran 1st.

At WW id bet the Ranch on Duran... Both guys were better at WW than JM ..BUt Duran was nowhereas fast (like atwwand Lw) and became a little tamer when he moved up....ODLH didnt lose too much speed, he didnt have big power at jm like WW (neither did Duran) but he wasstill a good puncher.

AT ww Duran might stop ODLH over 15 ,,OR win a competetive but convincing decision over 12.

BUt at JM...Ill lean towards....OScar more consistant at this weight...Also when Duran moved up he had problems with fast guys, and he couldnt chase themdown llike he used do.. If Oscar fights Duran like he did Tito(for 9 rounds),Mosley II, i think he wins close but convincing decision...He tries to ko or fight aggressive with Duran(dont think he will) Duran will beat him up.. All up to Oscar fights stupid he loses... FIghts smart and boxes,,keeps the fight at a distance , uses his legs then he takes a close decision over 12 rounds.... OVer 15 hmmmm maybe pickem.

PS that being said this was Oscars highest weight as an elite fighter.. The Duran who fought hagler might ko ODLH late.

What??? OScar was a beast at LW and a big time puncher but experience wise hadnt quite peaked... THat being said HTH i like OSCar over almost any ohter lw, but not here...... Oscar does well early ,and takes an early lead... Suprising Duran with his power as he does well from long range...But by the mid rounds Duran starts making ODLH fight his fight , roughing him up while at the same time making him miss and outboxing him... Oscar still has his moments but, Durans experience shows as he beats up ODLH on the inside, and rocks him repeatedly..By the 10th Oscar is busted up... Duran drops him and finishes him... Either that or ODLH corner stop it.

    Duran tko 10

Oscar faded and was going all out to contain a gunshy, one punch at a time Mosley in what wasn't exactly the most skilled fight you'll ever see.

Duran had his own flaws for sure at this weight, but i can't see him losing to an Oscar that at this weight has lost a lot of his physical gifts and power.

If Oscar moves a lot i see it more likely being competitive for the first half, then him characteristically slowing down and getting a bit of a mauling over the 2nd half.Osar always had a top chin though, so i reckon he goes the full route unless Duran has fouled the stuffing out of him ala Moore.

Just cant see Oscar being slick or fit enough to win on mobile left-hand boxing alone, and he's going to come off worse in any protracted exchanges imo.Significant gap in defensive ability here.

:huh What? Ive never believed Vargas was ruined by Tito, i thought he was probably better vs OScar or at least on par. Vargas was pumped for OScar and looked excellent early far better in the early rounds than in the Tito fight. Oscar is the one who took his prime from him.

Losing to Mosley??? Like the majority of fans i feel he was robbed in the 2nd fight,,,A faded Oscar ithought held his own with Mayweather and outside of Castillio I, gave him his closest fight.

Avoided Wright? Its pretty well known that Winky priced himself out of a fight with Oscar, not ODLHs fault they didnt fight....

I agree that ODLH wouldnt do as well as Duran did vs Hagler,,, And i cant see him beating Hearns (especially at JM).... ODLH - Benitez pretty close matchup IMO..Id only make Benitez a slight favorite.

ANd ODLH would probably do the same thing to Moore as Duran did.... Cuevas also was never the same after Tommy, that Cuevas would have been an easy fight for Oscar..

You say Oscar lost to every great fighter? I dont count robberys....And at Jm Duran even in top conidtion, was maybe borderline great at best.

As i said in an earlier post Duran is my all time favorite,,,,And i pick him over oscar at any other weight,,but at JM i see Oscar giving him problems.. Also the comparisons between Duran and Mosley is off the mark,,Differnet styles.. Duran smarter betterthan Shane at JM,, But at this weight(unlike Shane) also couple steps behind Oscar in puling the trigger.
